Plot Synopsis

Cookbook author and host Chef Gerry Garvin tours his native South to explore the region's best food, discovering each city's hidden gems and the people behind the magic. In each 30-minute episode, Garvin visits a different city, including: Charleston, SC, where he visits the Glass Onion to cook up a fresh and sophisticated pork belly dish, stops by Cakes by Kasarda to learn a thing or two about cake making, and heads out on a low country adventure to gather the seafood for a crab boil; Austin, TX, where he dives head first into the young and hip local food scene by going to a food truck, makes a pit stop at Hoover's Soular Food Trailer to get a raw and healthy take on comfort food, and then tries a 'Red-Headed Stranger' at Frank followed by a quirky unique sausage; Asheville, NC, where he takes in the sights by zip lining through Appalachia before landing in the sophisticated kitchen at Cucina 24, explores the town to pick up fresh ingredients from the Chop Shop Butchery, Blue Water Seafood, and local farmers market, and stops by the local brewery Green Man to pick up some great local beer; and Atlanta, Houston and more cities of the South to find traditional ethnic food, urban farms, and BBQ pitmasters extraordinaire. ROADTRIP WITH G. GARVIN returned for its second season on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 9pm ET, with Garvin visiting restaurants in new regions of the United States, including: his hometown, Atlanta, where he starts with shrimp and grits at Local Three, satisfies his sweet tooth with red velvet cake from A Piece of Cake, and tops off the day at JCT Kitchen with fried chicken; his home state, Georgia, where he begins at Yeah! Burger for a bison burger, continues on to the Brick Store Pub (Decatur, GA) for fish and chips, and ends at the Fickle Pickle (Roswell, GA) with a fried-green-tomato sandwich; San Francisco, where he tastes oyster flight and fried catfish po'boy at Brenda's Soul Food, visits local legend Richard Alioto of Alioto's for their famous crab cioppino, and discovers an unforgettable duck dish at Hops and Hominy. On Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 8pm ET, Cooking Channel first aired this program as a 60-minute special, GEORGIA ROADTRIP WITH GERRY GARVIN.

ROADTRIP returned for its 13-episode third season on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on Cooking Channel. In the premiere episode G. heads to Connecticut and starts his road trip at The Corner, a breakfast spot in Milford, CT, that has all the locals buzzing. The restaurant serves up Southern flavors, like the spiced duck tortilla and French toast stuffed with peaches and cream. The next stop is Mama's Boy Southern Table & Refuge in Norwalk, where they put their own fresh spin on traditional Southern classics, including espresso-rubbed short-ribs. The final stop on his tour is Sandra's Next Generation in New Haven, where they are cooking up authentic Deep South staples right on the east coast! Throughout the season G. travels wherever the food and road takes him, including a food truck that prepares a New Orleans style jambalaya in Oahu, Hawaii, and a stop in New York City to find some of the best Southern-inspired food the Empire State has to offer.
