Plot Synopsis
Created by Neil Jordan and based on an original idea by Paul McGuinness, RIVIERA is a one-hour drama series set in the south of France, where art curator Georgina Clios is newly married to billionaire Constantine, head of the Clios Bank, who is killed in a yacht explosion. She is shocked to discover the fortune that maintained his immaculate, ever-so-tasteful lifestyle is tainted with dishonesty, double-dealing, crime, and ultimately murder. Helped by Constantine's first wife, Irina, Georgina undergoes an education in lying, double-dealing, outright theft and shocking criminality. She has to learn fast to maintain the Clios mansion and save the family from its enemies and from itself. Hiding her bloodstained fingers inside Chanel gloves, she soon reveals herself to be an A-plus student in the brutal art of survival. She must work out who in his family she can trust to help her uncover whether it was an accident or murder -- or if Constantine is still alive. Soon after she starts her investigation, Georgina discovers Interpol are investigating Constantine for money laundering and art forgery, which unexpectedly links to Robert Carver, an old friend of hers. In an effort to save the Clios Bank, Irina gets into bed with a notorious criminal. Then, Georgina confronts Constantine's forger, looking for answers as to what her husband was doing on the yacht. As Georgina continues to search for the truth, her life -- and the lives of others in the Clios family -- are threatened, but will she ever uncover the truth about Constantine? RIVIERA had its U.S. premiere on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT on Sundance Now, which can be streamed via web, iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Xbox, FireTV and Chromecast. Season 2 of RIVIERA had its U.S. premiere on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as SundanceNow. Behind every great fortune is a great crime, and the second season of Riviera sees Georgina focused on trying to get away with murder as she fights to retain power within the Clios household and her position at the top of the elusive art world. Picking up immediately from the shocking ending of Season 1, with the Clios family still reeling from the devastation caused by Constantine's mysterious death, Georgina continues her battle for dominance and control with Irina Clios and her children Christos and Adriana. She must also contend with new arrivals, the Eltham family. A dynasty who sail in to the shores of the Cote d'Azur, with secrets of their own. Juliet Stevenson takes on the role of Lady Cassandra Eltham and is joined on the Riviera by her children, the impossibly stylish Daphne and the brooding Nico and Daphne's husband Raafi. Meanwhile, Georgina is reunited with her charismatic uncle, Jeff, and we learn more about the troubled past she left behind in America. She also becomes entangled with the handsome and mysterious Noah. In the season opener, a distressed Georgina, caught in the eye of a torrential rainstorm hours after disposing of Adam's body, is pulled from the sea by Raafi Al-Qadar, a wealthy businessman on honeymoon with his wife Daphne. SundanceNow will release a new episode each Thursday.
