Plot Synopsis

Shot in several locations across Istanbul, RISE OF EMPIRES: OTTOMAN is a one-hour historical docudrama that centers on Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, who wages an epic campaign to take the Byzantine capital of Constantinople and shapes the course of history for centuries. The story opens with Mehmed II sending an unmistakable signal to Byzantine emperor Constantine XI after claiming the Ottoman throne. Enter Genoese mercenaries. Then, Mehmed launches an ambitious siege to break through the walls of Constantinople, but Giustiniani's mercenaries manage to forestall the Janissaries. Mehmed's men dig underground tunnels in an attempt to shatter city walls. The tides turn against the Ottomans when a naval blockade founders. On Friday, January 24, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released six episodes of RISE OF EMPIRES: OTTOMAN. Nearly one year later, History Channel aired the linear television debut of RISE OF EMPIRES: OTTOMAN, debuting three back-to-back episodes from 8-11pm ET/PT on consecutive nights: Saturday, January 9 & Sunday, January 10, 2021.

On Thursday, December 29, 2022, Netflix released the entire six-episode second season of RISE OF EMPIRES: OTTOMAN, which featured "Mehmed vs. Vlad" as the subtitle for the new season. Years after conquering Constantinople, Sultan Mehmed II solidifies his reign, but in nearby Wallachia, childhood friend Vlad the Impaler gains notoriety and seeks to challenge Mehmed's hegemony. Mehmed sends Maria to coax Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus into an alliance. An epic battle along the Danube River looms, and Vlad has the upper hand.
