Plot Synopsis

When a group of people return to their idyllic French mountain hometown, they don't realize they've been dead for years and that nobody is expecting them back -- and they find they're not the only ones to return from the dead. This seemingly random collection of people find themselves in a state of confusion as they attempt to return to their homes, and their return shakes families and loved ones. As they struggle to reintegrate with their families and past lovers, buried secrets emerge, new mysteries develop, and the living and the dead must grapple with their new reality. They soon find that strange happenings seem to suggest they're not the only ones who have been brought back, because their arrival coincides with a series of gruesome murders which bear a chilling resemblance to the work of a serial killer from the past. Sundance Channel aired the U.S. premiere of this series at 9pm ET/PT on Halloween 2013 (October 31, 2013). On Halloween 2015 (Saturday, October 31) at 10pm ET/PT, Sundance TV aired the U.S. premiere of the second season of THE RETURNED. Season 2 picks up six months after the deceased gathered outside the Helping Hand shelter before disappearing into the mountains with Simon, Camille, her mother Claire, Julie and the mysterious youngster Victor. Since then, nothing has been heard of them or the police who fought to protect the Helping Hand shelter's residents. In present day, Adele is about to give birth to Simon's child, part of the town is still flooded and the dam remains under surveillance, with the army providing logistical support for those residents who have chosen to stay. Rumors abound that the dead have returned, but the authorities refuse to believe them. The rare witnesses have chosen to remain silent or are not taken seriously, among them Lena and her father Jerome, who have not given up hope of finding Claire and Camille. But when a mysterious man named Berg pays a visit to the town, it appears he knows more than he claims.

On Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, SundanceTV premiered the 75-minute Season 2 finale of THE RETURNED. In the season ender, "The Returned," Camille understands that she can't stay with her loved ones any longer and must go back to the Returned; The Horde have dispersed, but Lucy doubts that they can now return to where they came from.
