Plot Synopsis

RESIDENT EVIL is a live-action, scripted series that tells a new story building on Capcom's video game franchise of the same name. Nearly three decades after the discovery of the T-virus, an outbreak reveals the Umbrella Corporation's dark secrets. It's now 2036 -- 14 years after Joy caused so much pain -- Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and mind-shattering creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father's chilling connections to the sinister Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie. All eight episodes of RESIDENT EVIL dropped on Thursday, July 14, 2022 on Netflix.

About the characters:

Jade Wesker: In 2022, Jade is 14 and a newcomer to New Raccoon City -- a suburban community for employees of a large pharmaceutical company called the Umbrella Corporation. Along with her fraternal twin sister Billie, she tries her best to fit in at school, but becomes distracted by the realization that her father is involved in nefarious activities at Umbrella. Fierce, rebellious, and headstrong, Jade does her best to do the right thing -- and protect her sister who struggles more than she does in her coming-of-age journey. 14 years later, in 2036, Jade is a hardened survivor of the dystopia brought on by the blood-thirsty infected. While she embarks on dangerous missions to collect data about the infected, she misses her husband and daughter who resent her for being so focused on her work. She is a tough woman with a heart who struggles to balance her relentless quest for knowledge with the family who needs her.

Billie Wesker: In 2022 Billie struggles with a school bully and fears the anger brewing inside her. Billie enjoys the close bond she shares with her sister, but begins to resent her for her selfish tendencies. When she learns that Umbrella covertly conducts animal testing, she sheds her compliant M.O. and embarks on an ill-fated mission with Jade to free the caged test subjects. Tragically, she is bitten by an infected dog and given a virus that changes the course of her life.

Albert Wesker: Billie and Jade's father is a scientist employed by Umbrella Corporation. Although he is stoic and distant, he is intensely protective of his daughters. He also has a moral compass when his boss puts the company's profits over the safety of their products. Jade and Billie become suspicious of the secrets he keeps, including why he regularly takes samples of their blood.

Evelyn Marcus: The sociopathic CEO of Umbrella has ambitions to change the world -- but only for the benefit of the company. She is ruthless in her quest to get a new psychotropic drug called Joy to market, so much so that she overlooks its horrific side effects. Her father founded the company but was ousted after a prior incident that led to the destruction of the first Raccoon City in 1998.
