Plot Synopsis
REDWOOD KINGS is a one-hour reality series that follows twin brothers Ron and John Daniels and their crew at Daniels Wood Land, as they transform ancient reclaimed redwood trees into hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind, creative works of art, including carvings of animated characters, feature film and theme park facades, and custom play houses and tree houses. Keeping every project on schedule and on budget is no easy task, but their crew of 40 carpenters, designers, artists and engineers pull off these specimens of art. The crew includes: Ron Daniels, the detail-oriented president of Daniels Wood Land, who owns and operates the shop in Paso Robles, CA, where his property consists of a woodshed, junkyard, and garage; John Daniels, the artistic and chainsaw-wielding creative mastermind, whose wood carvings serve as centerpieces for many of the shop's themed attractions and tree houses; Mark Sylvestre, the shop foreman, who is responsible for taking Ron and John's ideas and turning them into a reality; Ren Gomes, the team's resident MacGyver, who is usually exploring ghost towns or wandering the desert when he isn't working; Kam Alton, a laid-back surfer, who hangs out with his wife and baby daughter when he isn't riding waves or building works of art at the shop; Edward Walton Wilcox, a world-class artist, who is the sketching mastermind behind all the designs at Daniels Wood Land; and Jim Daniels, the twins' older brother and master welder, who occasionally comes into the shop and works his soldering magic. In each 60-minute episode, Ron and John and their crew tackle one or two different projects, including: a pirate-themed treehouse for the grandchildren of a couple in San Diego; a drinking table from the cross-section of a 1,500-year-old Sequoia for a local brewery in Paso Robles; a 10-gun, camping-themed shooting gallery featuring dozens of dancing ducks, goofy prairie dogs and a heckling animatronic hillbilly bear; an authentic millhouse that pays tribute to the California Gold Rush days, as a roadside attraction for travelers in central California; a peasant-inspired cottage to house rescued ducks for a local animal lover; a 3,000-year-old timeline log at a wild animal park in Huntsville, AL; a nine-room, interactive journey that takes visitors through the San Francisco's outrageous 200-year-old history; a hobbit hideaway play structure, using a 3,500-year-old, 20,000 lb. gnarled redwood root ball as a base; three large-scale replicas of ships that sank in the Great Lakes during the previous three centuries for an exhibit at the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes in Ontario, Canada; a custom tree house for a family in Sunnyside, WA; and many more outrageous jobs. Animal Planet first aired REDWOOD KINGS as a one-hour special on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 11pm ET/PT, more than eight months before the official series premiere on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT. REDWOOOD KINGS returned for its ten-episode second season on Friday, July 9, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT. In the season opener, actress & Vegas showgirl Holly Madison orders a chicken coop to contain her husband's growing chicken obsession, and John carves a couple of foxes that could easily stretch his creativity to the limit. Later in the season, the guys create a cartoon-style clubhouse for a pig farm in freezing conditions in Indiana, and they construct their most ambitious build yet with a Leonardo Da Vinci-themed workshop for world's largest amusement park trade show.

On Friday, September 11, 2015 from 8-10pm ET/PT, Animal Planet premiered the Season 2 finale of REDWOOD KINGS. In the two-hour season ender, "Redwood Renaissance," the crew constructs their most ambitious build ever for the largest amusement trade show in the world. Modelled on the work of Leonardo da Vinci, they build a massive medieval workshop, complete with a jaw-dropping windmill tower and eight firing cannons.
