Plot Synopsis

Using the tools and techniques of the early 20th century, four modern day engineers rebuild sections and features of the Titanic. In this series, they: reconstruct a 30-foot wide section of the steel hull of the RMS Titanic at the Belfast dock it was first constructed; rebuild Titanic's iconic -- and colossal -- 16-ton anchor; re-create Titanic's century-old electrical gadgetry, using them to host a first-class dinner based on the ship's actual menus for descendants of those who were aboard her maiden voyage; remake Titanic's luxurious interiors, fixtures and fittings, exhibiting them at the city where she was born; and reproduce Titanic's safety features, including a 100-year-old Marconi emergency wireless and a lifejacket. These four engineers are: Yewande Akinola, whose background is in engineering design and specializes in low energy, low maintenance, and low intensive manufacturing technologies, including interactive rainwater harvesting machines and solar thermal schemes; Luke Perry, proudly born and bred in Black Country in a family of chain makers, whose greatest passion is honoring the men and women who have never been acknowledged in Britain's industrial heritage; Dave Wilkes, with over 30 tattoos and a look out of MAD MAX, who has a keen knowledge of metal work and machinery and worked as a steel erector using ropes and cranes on the Isle of Dogs skyscraper; and Brendan Walker, a former worker at British Aerospace Military, who does research into the emotional experience of thrill rides, and consults with companies about how to engineer rides that give passengers the maximum amount of fear. Nat Geo aired portions of this series as a two-part, two-hour special on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 9pm ET. To mark the 100th anniversary of Titanic's sinking, Nat Geo aired the U.S. premiere of the entire series on April 15, 2012 by showing all five episodes back-to-back starting at 10am ET.
