Plot Synopsis

Every detective has that one case that pushes them to the brink. A case so personal and intense it haunts them forever. With narrative driven exclusively by the detectives themselves and re-enactments with celebrity guest stars, each one-hour episode of REAL DETECTIVE ventures deep into the mind of a homicide detective as they describe in vivid detail the one case forever ingrained in their memory. Each 60-minute focuses on that one case from a different detective, including: Detective Eddie Herman (guest star Devon Sawa) of Cobb county, Georgia, a homicide detective at the top of his game, whose ego gets in the way when a missing persons case turns into a double homicide -- and the killer walks free; Detective C.W. Jensen (guest star Tahmoh Penikett), who is pushed to the brink of suicide when a missing child becomes a harrowing pursuit of a Portland, Oregon child serial killer; Texas Ranger Phil Ryan (guest star Michael Madsen), who goes against the grain to get justice when all signs point to suspects with friends in high places in the horrific murder of a young woman; Detective Don Tabak (guest star Curtis Caravaggio), who joins the Van Nuys Homicide division during the harshest murder years in LA history to have his eyes opened by the mother of a senselessly murdered woman; Homicide Detective Leigh Maroni (guest star Zoie Palmer), who makes a rookie mistake and gets too close when a woman is crushed by her son's murder; Detective Tommy Ray (guest star Max Martini), who takes a grieving wife and daughter under his wing after a suspicious hit and run rips a Lakeland, Florida family apart -- but an unexpected encounter makes him realize they aren't who he thinks they are; Mike Ciesinsky (guest star Brendan Fehr), who gets a call from an inmate with information on the murders of a series of women in an area of Seattle called "the jungle" that bears a pact with the Devil; and John Cameron (guest star Ryan Robbins), who is resolved to prove everyone wrong about a child's disappearance when the suspect is someone he knows. Season 2 of REAL DETECTIVE premiered on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "Blood Brothers," long-time partners and best friends, Inspectors John Conaty and Ray Giacomelli never thought things would happen the way they did on a Pittsburg, California murder case, where the prime suspect is a dangerous killer, put behind bars years earlier.

On Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the Season 2 finale of REAL DETECTIVE. In the season ender, "Angel Doe," which features the case of Angel Doe, a little girl found dead in a ditch near the Houston Bayou, who nobody reported missing. Investigator Clarence Douglas promises he won't neglect her in death, like she was in life.
