Plot Synopsis
In addition to creating, writing, directing, composing music for, and executive producing the series, artist Terence Nance appears in all six episodes of RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS, which is a stream-of-conscious response to the contemporary American mediascape. Each half-hour episode features a handful of interconnected vignettes, showcasing an ensemble cast of emerging and established talent. The show is a mix of verite documentary, musical performances, surrealist melodrama and humorous animation. Nance and his collaborators weave together such themes as ancestral trauma, history, death, the singularity, and romance. Guest stars include Dominique Fishback, Whoopi Goldberg, Gillian Jacobs, Ntare Guma Mwine, Adepero Oduye, Natalie Paul, Paul Sparks, and more. In the series opener, "What Are Your Thoughts on Raising Free Black Children?," Terence introduces RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS before being stopped by the NYPD. Segments include: "Everybody Dies!," a cable-access show hosted by "Ripa the Reaper"; an infomercial for a topical-ointment cure for "white thoughts"; and a talk show on sex in the black community Other segments in the season include: a first-person shooter game for women that takes out street harassers with scowls; a tutorial for men on how to not be a creep; a Dominican-American musical interpretation of "a classic children's fairytale"; a consideration of whether Michelle Obama is God; and more.

The sophomore season of RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS premiered with back-to-back half-hour episodes on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11:59pm ET/PT on HBO. The six-episode season continues with two episodes airing weekly, concluding December 23. Artist, musician, and filmmaker Terence Nance returns Season 2. Exploring the metaphysics of Black life through avant-garde storytelling, the second season follows Terence (Terence Nance) and Najja (Alicia Pilgrim), a couple working towards healing generational wounds and reintroducing themselves to the ways of their ancestors. Each of the six episodes explores a different dimension while presenting a rich tapestry of audio and visuals to illustrate the spiritual practice of Black liberation. Season 2 cast includes Terence Nance (Terence), Alicia Pilgrim (Najja), Austin Smith (Xavier), and Ta'Neesha Murphy (Janaya). The first two Season 2 episodes are:
"First Dimension: The Meaning of Your Name" (11:59pm ET/PT): While working on her latest game, Najja takes a unique and murderous approach to ritual. After having his wounds appraised, Terence has all the guidance he needs for the 6-dimensional journey ahead.
"Second Dimension: Finna Hafta Teach You Swine Lovers" (12:30am ET/PT): Terence's wound MANDY is maaaaad loud -- and has been talking out of pocket to Najja -- so Terence attempts to silence that dude...forever. Najja prepares for the ritual to end, or begin, all rituals -- which apparently requires a very specific hat.
