Plot Synopsis

Directed and written by filmmaker Cullen Hoback and executive produced by Adam McKay, Q:INTO THE STORM is a six-part documentary series that explores the origins of QAnon. Spanning three years in the making and traversing the globe, the series follows Hoback on a labyrinthine journey to uncover the forces behind QAnon, a movement fueled by conspiracy theories that has grown in scope and political significance, chronicling its evolution in real time and revealing how "Q" uses information warfare to game the internet, hijack politics and manipulate people's thinking. Hoback gains unprecedented access to key players including Jim and Ron Watkins, the father/son team behind the 8chan website, the site "Q" calls home; explores their rivalry with Fredrick Brennan, the original creator of the platform; and interviews "Q-tubers", Q debunkers, political operatives, and journalists who have been closely following the movement since it began in 2017. The series examines the connections between QAnon, President Trump, and political and ex-military operatives. It also explores QAnon's influence on American culture and politics and probes the consequences of unfettered free speech permeating the darkest corners of the internet. Back-to-back episodes of Q:INTO THE STORM premiere 9-11pm ET/PT each Sunday on HBO, beginning March 21 through April 4.

On Sunday, April 4, 2021 from 9-11pm ET/PT, HBO premiered the final two episodes of Q: INTO THE STORM:

"Game Over" (9pm): As the rivalry between Fred and the Watkins intensifies, 8chan is relaunched as "8kun," where Q re-emerges after months being offline. Meanwhile, ex-military and political operatives aim to tap the power of Q. Back in Manila, Jim slaps Fred with a lawsuit, forcing him to plan a great escape.

"The Storm" (10pm): With the world in lockdown from Covid-19, Q's wild theories draw in new followers and get amplified by major political figures -- all of which culminate in the siege at the U.S. Capitol. Reflecting on years of his collected evidence, Cullen draws conclusions on who is behind QAnon and its future impact.
