Plot Synopsis

PREY plays out as two three-part stories that straddle two intense cases, with down-but-not-out Detective Sergeant Susan Reinhardt fighting to unravel the truth while struggling to cope with her own demons. After her failed marriage, Reinhardt seeks redemption in excessive hours of work and finds comfort by eating her feelings. Now, both of her cases point to corruption in the UK law enforcement, and the turmoil drives Reinhardt into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse and the outcome may change her life forever. First she's tasked with catching colleague Detective Constable Marcus Farrow, a man on the run, who will do things he never thought possible to clear his name for the sake of his family. When Farrow's framed for the murder of his wife and child, he has no choice but to make an escape to clear his name. Farrow does everything he can to get to the truth but Reinhardt is in hot pursuit. The widespread hunt for Farrow gains momentum when Reinhardt receives a tip pointing to his whereabouts. But just when Reinhardt thinks she has finally nailed Farrow, he manages to escape once again. Farrow discovers some shocking truths about an old case and believes someone close to home may know something about the death of his wife Abi and son Max. The pursuit of Farrow comes to a dramatic climax when Reinhardt closes in on her prey. Meanwhile, the guilt and weight of the investigation becomes too much for Farrow's best friend and one remaining alley, Detective Inspector Sean Devlin. Time is running out, until finally, Farrow gets some answers -- but will they be enough to clear his name? In the second story, Reinhardt must resolve why an exceptional prison officer at HMP Ravenhill Prison, Dave Murdoch, is helping an inmate escape. After his pregnant daughter, Lucy, is kidnapped, Murdoch is forced to help inmate Jules Hope escape and deliver her to the man holding Lucy captive. Unaware of the threat to Murdoch, Reinhardt and her new partner, Detective Constable Richard Iddon, search for clues to discover what has driven a well-liked, hard-working man with an unblemished career to such extreme behavior. A shocking revelation leaves Murdoch unsure of who is holding his daughter captive. The hunt takes Murdoch and Jules' hometown of Blackpool, but Reinhardt and Iddon are one step ahead with a trap set. Meanwhile, Murdoch has discovered a way to finally free Lucy, but it'll be a dangerous mission to bring her to safety. Will Murdoch succeed before Reinhardt and Iddon catch their prey?
