Plot Synopsis
Four estranged best friends are reunited one year after their best friend and queen bee of the group, Alison, goes missing -- only to discover they're receiving messages from an anonymous "A" who knows all their secrets. "A" remains unknown until the Season 2 finale, when it is revealed that Mona was "A." At the start of Season 3, five months has passed since Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer found out about Mona being "A" and Maya's death. With an alleged murderer now behind bars, the town of Rosewood is slowly healing from old and new wounds and trying to get back to normalcy. Each of the girls spent their summer in different ways -- Aria taking a photography class, Spencer taking college courses at Hollis, Hanna taking cooking classes with Caleb and Emily building houses for the poor in Haiti. With post-traumatic stress, anger and the acquisition of more secrets, these four friends are anything but fine. Now all back together on Labor Day Weekend, the second anniversary of Alison's disappearance, the girls find themselves back on the defensive when a shocking event rocks Rosewood. At the start of Season 3, five months had passed since Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer found out about Mona being "A" and Maya's death. With an alleged murderer now behind bars, the town of Rosewood was slowly healing from old and new wounds and trying to get back to normalcy, until the girls found themselves back on the defensive when a shocking event rocks Rosewood on the second anniversary of Alison's disappearance: the new "A" is a team of people directed by a blonde woman in a red coat. Midway through the season, Toby is revealed on the second member the A Team, but he later reveals that he's been working with Mona to protect the girls. Plus, near the end of the third season, Spencer, after having withdrawn from her circle of friends and being admitted to Radley, is revealed as the third member of the A Team, having finally accepted Mona's offer. In the Season 3 finale, Mona, Toby and the PLLs meet in a lodge, which is set on fire after Spencer and Toby leave, but Red Coat, who the girls identify as Alison, pulls the other four girls out of the fire. When they return to Rosewood, all five girls get the same text: "You're mine now. Kisses. -A." When Season 4 opened, the Liars were desperate to uncover what new scheme "A" had in store for them in the wake of the lodge fire, and had no choice but to turn to Mona for answers, now that she was also being targeted. Aria struggled with seeing Ezra in the wake of their breakup, and Emily started to make plans for life after high school. Meanwhile, "A" set Toby on a new path, the contents of the trunk were revealed, and a shocking discovery reverberated through Rosewood. PRETTY LITTLE LIARS returned for the rest of Season 4 on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT on ABC Family, as Hanna suggested that the girls find out who is really buried in Alison's grave, but Emily had trouble dealing with how she felt about Alison being alive. Meanwhile, Caleb returned to Rosewood, and Ezra secretly met with Mona and Aria. PRETTY LITTLE LIARS returned for its fifth season on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT on ABC Family, as the PLLs must dodge their dreaded nemesis "A," while navigating a world with Alison back in it. Season 5 opened just moments after the finale of the previous season, and Aria and the Liars are reeling from Ezra's shooting at the hands of "A." The five girls quickly realize that as the one person who truly knows A's identity, Ezra is in grave danger. While Aria stands watch over Ezra at the hospital, Alison and the PLLs lay a trap to finally flush out "A" but are shocked by who is ensnared. Meanwhile, Holbrook steps up his efforts to find the girls and puts the Hastings family on alert. And as news of Alison's resurrection spreads, Mona is not pleased. In the midseason #FatalFinale, "Taking This One to the Grave," Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer feel trapped, because Alison is leading down a dangerous path and "A" is barring them from telling the police the truth. With nothing else to lose and desperate to find a way out of this mess, could the PLLs lose everything by putting their faith in a possibly untrustworthy ally? Meanwhile, Alison begins to build up her own army now that the PLLs have turned their back on her. PRETTY LITTLE LIARS returnd on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT with the Liars still reeling from Mona's death. Three months have passed and Mona's friends and family are still mourning their loss and are more adamant than ever that Alison had something to do with Mona's death. Ready to put "A's" game to an end and get justice for Mona, the PLLs ramp up their search for evidence that could prove Alison killed Mona. But with Alison claiming her innocence and having a seemingly airtight alibi, the Liars may have to resort to more shady tactics to put Ali away. Meanwhile, Emily and Paige reach a crossroad in their relationship, and Aria starts to worry about her future. PRETTY LITTLE LIARS returned for its sixth season on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT, immediately following an all-day marathon (Noon-8pm) of encore episodes from Season 5. In the Season 6 premiere, "Game On, Charles," which was directed by Chad Lowe, Aria, Hanna, Emily, Spencer and Mona struggle to survive Charles' demented games after being trapped outside the Dollhouse at the end of Season 5. Just when the Liars thought Charles couldn't get any worse, his games take a more demented and darker turn. As the girls struggle to survive, the puzzle of Charles' story begins to come together. Meanwhile, Ezra, Caleb and Toby continue their search for the girls -- with or without the help of the Rosewood police. New episodes of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS premiered on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT on Freeform, the new name for ABC Family. Now five years later, the girls are not the same people they were when they left Rosewood. Having pursued their own paths and adjusting to a life without "A," how will they be able to cope when they go back to where it all started when they are summoned by the court for a hearing about Charlotte? Torn between their old habits and their new lives, the Liars must stick around, and together, as relationships are once again put to the test and new secrets are revealed. Then, the Liars start to look at one of their own as questions arise regarding the new mystery. It's life or death for one of the PLLs in "Tick-Tock Bitches," the Season 7 premiere of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, airing Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 8-9pm ET/PT on Freeform. Fans can catch up on where the Liars left off with an all-day marathon of Season 6 starting at 11am and running up to the one-hour premiere at 8pm. After Hanna's shocking abduction by "Uber A," the PLLs and company desperately race against the clock to save one of their own. The only way to do this is by handing over evidence of Charlotte's real murderer to "Uber A." In order to do so, the girls must decide what blatant lines they are willing to cross that they have never breached before; and once they cross that line, there is no turning back. The first of the final 10 PLL episodes premiered on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT on Freeform, immediately following a nine-hour marathon (11am-8pm) of encore episodes. In the spring premiere, "Playtime," Spencer focuses on learning more about her connection to Mary Drake, while Aria and Ezra figure out what their future may hold now that Nicole is back in the picture. Mona helps Hanna get her fashion career back on track, and Emily struggles to balance things between Ali and Paige now that the three of them are working at Rosewood High. Meanwhile, A.D. has a special delivery for the Liars, one that reveals the final endgame. The Liars realize this latest gift pushes things to a whole new level. Season 7 continues to be filled with homecomings and reunions, bringing back old characters as it has already done in the first half of the season, including Wren Kingston (Julian Morris), Pastor Ted Wilson (Edward Kerr), Jenna Marshall (Tammin Sursok), Paige McCullers (Lindsey Shaw) and Sydney Driscoll (Chloe Bridges). A PLL Wedding for one of the Liars is also in store for the latter half of the season. "It's been an honor to work with such a talented cast and crew over the last seven years. We are a family, and it will be hard to say goodbye to a show that has made such an impact on young audiences and been a mouthpiece for cultural change. I'm excited for fans to finally have all of their questions answered, and I believe they will be satisfied with the wild ride that is our last ten episodes," remarked I. Marlene King.
