Plot Synopsis

Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, PREHISTORIC PLANET is a five-day documentary series that transports viewers 66 million years in the past to discover our world -- and the dinosaurs that roamed it. Rolling out with one new episode per day, this series combines award-winning wildlife filmmaking, the latest paleontology learnings, and state-of-the-art technology to unveil the habitats and inhabitants of ancient Earth for a one-of-a-kind immersive experience. PREHISTORIC PLANET presents little-known and surprising facts of dinosaur life set against the backdrop of the environments of Cretaceous times, including coasts, deserts, freshwater, ice worlds and forests. A new episode drops each day from Monday, May 23 through Friday, May 27, 2022 on Apple TV+:

"Coasts" (Monday, May 23, 2022): A pregnant Tuarangisaurus is in distress -- and her young calf can sense it -- as she travels waters that are home to the ocean's deadliest predators.

"Deserts" (Tuesday, May 24, 2022): Above the deserts of North Africa, aerial combat ensues as male Barbaridactylus pterosaurs fight for the attention of females below.

"Freshwater" (Wednesday, May 25, 2022): With its feathered body and duck bill, the eight-ton Deinocheirus wades through an Asian wetland in search of relief from pesky biting flies.

"Ice Worlds" (Thursday, May 26, 2022): Within the snow-covered forest, a tense standoff develops between ancient rivals, Pachyrhinosaurus and Nanuqsaurus.

"Forests" (Friday, May 27, 2022): A journey through an underground cave in North America turns perilous when a young Triceratops is separated from its mother.

The sophomore season of PREHISTORIC PLANET premiered on Monday, May 22, 2023 on Apple TV+, with one episode dropping daily through Friday, May 26. Sir David Attenborough returns to narrate this five-day, week-long event. Exploring five new habitats, audiences can expect to be transported to the active volcanoes of India, the marshlands of Madagascar, the deep oceans near North America and so much more. Throughout this season, the series and its creators take you up close into dinosaurs' habitats to experience the dangers, the adventures and even the camaraderie between species unlike any we've seen before. New studies show that giant herbivore dinosaurs, like Tarchia, were formidable fighters - their armored skin defended against predators, as well as among themselves for mating rights. While the T. rex was known to be the mightiest predator on land, a lesser-known rival for the title of "Prehistoric Planet's Deadliest" ruled the seas. The giant Mosasaurus was a 55-foot aquatic lizard capable of accelerating through the water at incredible speeds and launching attacks that its prey would never see coming. Isisaurus is one of many dinosaurs making their screen debut in season two. Fossil records show that they may have nested in huge lava covered areas, deliberately laying their eggs where volcanic heat warmed the ground. Predators were also found in the air; Quetzalcoatlus was a giraffe-sized flying reptile and the biggest animal ever to fly. These incredible pterosaurs could attack and fly with prey up to 100 lbs., armed with a six-foot, fast-stabbing beak. "Prehistoric Planet" season two introduces many dinosaur species new to science and named in recent years from the Cretaceous world while also hinting at other animals that lived alongside dinosaurs, including early members of most groups of animals, like mammals and reptiles, alive today. Season 2 episodes include:

"Islands" (Monday, May 22, 2023): On a small island, a monumental display takes place as the giant Hatzegopteryx reveals his gentler side to woo a mate.

"Badlands" (Tuesday, May 23, 2023): Trudging through a scorching desert, two young Tarchia find relief at an oasis and encounter an adult twice their size, ready to lay claim.

"Swamps" (Wednesday, May 24, 2023): In a drought-stricken basin where much has perished, an old Pachycephalosaurus bull defends his leadership against a young challenger.

"Oceans" (Thursday, May 25, 2023): Deep beneath the water's surface, the world's largest predator -- the Mosasaurus -- lies in wait to ambush unsuspecting prey.

"North America" (Friday, May 26, 2023): Not many can intimidate North America's top predator, T. rex, whose size and bite are a deadly combo -- except for a giant winged foe.
