Plot Synopsis

Inspired in part by the real-life experiences of Australian comedian Josh Thomas, PLEASE LIKE ME follows a fictional version of Josh, who is heading toward his 21st birthday. In the span of 24 hours, Josh is dumped by his girlfriend Claire, realizes he may be gay, and moves in with his mother, who has just attempted suicide. All of a sudden it seems as though everyone's life is in disarray and Josh is at the center of it all. He comes to realize he's growing up quickly and that parents are not always the heroes you thought they were, especially when he sees his dad, Alan, interrupting his dates and his mom, Rose, jumping into the dating pool with an online dating service. While Josh agrees to go on a date with Geoffrey, his ex-girlfriend starts dating his housemate, Tom, who was going out with Niamh, the ultimate in high-maintenance girlfriends. On the day that Pivot TV debuted as a new cable network, it aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Thursday, August 1, 2013, showing all six episodes of the first season from 8-11pm ET. On Friday, August 8, 2014 at 10:30pm ET, Pivot aired the U.S. premiere of the second season of PLEASE LIKE ME. Season 2 jumped ahead a few years and finds Thomas, who, with an aversion to confrontation, drama and emotion in general, encounters some enormous challenges in his own awkward, self-centered and frank way. Josh comes to realize he's growing up quickly and that parents are not always the heroes you thought they were. Plus, a new dog, a new rabbit and a new baby add to the hilarity of his world. Pivot aired the U.S. premiere of Season 3 of PLEASE LIKE ME on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT. The 10-episode third season charges head-on into twenty-something territory with storylines concerning online dating, coming out, STDs, adultery, and raising chickens.

Season 4 of PLEASE LIKE ME was originally scheduled to premiere in the United States on Pivot on Thursday, November 10, 2016, but the cable channel shut down 10 days earlier on October 31. According to the Herald-Sun, the fourth season sees Josh's "mum teetering between depression and elation, his dad worried his partner Mae is bullying him, best friend Tom's looking to move out with his girlfriend and Josh's boyfriend Arnold seems to be losing interest."
