Plot Synopsis

Reese is a former CIA agent who was presumed to be dead, but was recently recruited by Finch, a reclusive and mysterious billionaire. Reese wants to prevent violent crimes in New York City, but all they have is a social security number from the government's surveillance system that Finch built. They don't know if the number belongs to the perp or the victim, but they have to stop the crime. And the numbers never stop coming. Carter and Fusco are two NYPD homicide detectives who help them. In the Season 2 opener, Reese enlisted Detectives Carter and Fusco to find the missing Finch, who was kidnapped by his hacker nemesis, Root, in the previous season's finale. PERSON OF INTEREST returned for its third season on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT, as The Machine spit out the number for a U.S. naval officer, which made it challenging for Reese and Shaw, because it was Fleet Week. Meanwhile, Carter was demoted to a patrol officer as a result of her being set up by the corrupt police crime organization HR, and set a plan in motion to eradicate them for good. Sarah Shahi and Amy Acker were elevated from recurring roles to regulars for Season 3. PERSON OF INTEREST returned for its fourth season on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "Panopticon," the team tries to adapt to their new lives when they're forced to take on new identities created by Root. However, some find it hard to ignore The Machine's numbers, which puts them all at risk of being detected by Samaritan. PERSON OF INTEREST returned for its fifth and final season on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, with two weekly episodes scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10pm. In the season opener, "B.S.O.D.," Reese and Finch attempt to rescue the Machine's source code before it deteriorates beyond repair. Also, Root fights for her life against an onslaught of Samaritan's agents and Fusco is faced with hard questions following the deaths of Dominic and Elias.

On Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT, CBS premiered the series finale of PERSON OF INTEREST. In the series ender, "Return 0," Finch, Reese, Fusco and Shaw embark on one last mission to prevent Samaritan from destroying The Machine and cementing its hold over mankind.
