Plot Synopsis

As detectives uncover new evidence and turn to new suspects, THE PERFECT MURDER uses re-enactments to flashback, depicting each of the detectives' possible theories of what may have happened. Meanwhile, the story advances by using interviews with the detectives, journalists, and even friends and family closest to the case. Whether by planting false evidence, or writing anonymous letters to police, these ingenious killers stopped at nothing to stay one step ahead of the cops. But one new clue led to another, and what seemed like the perfect murder became a routine case. Each one-hour episode of this series focuses on a different victim, including: Sunday school teacher Miriam Illes, shot through her kitchen window by a sniper, who tried to throw police off his scent with convoluted evidence and anonymous handwritten letters; and a young mother shot dead in her bedroom in 1985, with her stepdaughter confessing to the crime -- but detectives suspect there's more to this twisted family than meets the eye. In the season opener, "Kosher Killer," an Orthodox Jewish mother finds her daughter strangled to death in their Staten Island home. Her Muslim ex-boyfriend had been stalking her. Computer techs uncover a dangerous online dating habit. But the real killer was someone much closer to home. Season 3 of THE PERFECT MURDER premiered on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "The Body in the Swamp," Miami businessman Henry Diaz goes missing the night before a family vacation. His business success has earned him many enemies...even within his own family. But before police can figure out who killed Henry Diaz, they'll need to find his body. On Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the fourth season of THE PERFECT MURDER. In the season opener, "A Shot in the Dark," New York City fashion photographer Joel Schoenfeld is shot dead in his Greenwich Village studio one cold January morning. Joel appears to have it all, but detectives will eventually uncover a dark secret and a twisted tale of revenge.

Season 5 of THE PERFECT MURDER premiered on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the season opener, "Bizarre Love Triangle," Ann Anastasi returns home from shopping to find her husband, Anthony, lifeless in bed, a gun beside him. Police soon find a second victim, Jacqueline Riggs, in the basement, stabbed to death. What happened here is a dark tale of love, lust and violence.
