Plot Synopsis
Each year since 1895 -- except in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic -- Philadelphia has hosted the world's oldest relay meet, held annually at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field, featuring the best high school, collegiate and Olympic track & field athletes. The inaugural event was held to increase student interest in track and field, and that event drew 5,000 spectators, the largest audience for a track meet in Philadelphia at that time. The 67th running of the Penn Relays were featured -- along with the Drake Relays -- on the very first episode of WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS on Saturday, April 29, 2022 on ABC. The 2020 and 2021 Penn Relays were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
