Plot Synopsis

Hosted by Michael Torpey, PAID OFF WITH MICHAEL TORPEY is a half-hour game show that gives three lucky college grads -- all saddled with student debt -- the chance to test the depth of their degrees with fast-paced trivia questions. In the end, one lucky winner gets the chance to have their student debt paid off.

Season 2 of PAID OFF WITH MICHAEL TORPEY premiered on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on truTV. The series returns with 16 new episodes, featuring $1 million in prize money and a new interactive call-in segment to award cash to at-home viewers. Four new episodes debut the first week at 10pm through Thursday, and then PAID OFF moves to its regular timeslot -- Tuesdays at 10pm -- beginning May 21. With these new episodes, Torpey once again endeavors to raise awareness of a massive issue, while simultaneously providing life-changing opportunities one contestant at a time. Contestants win bigger sums of money throughout the run, with more than $1 million in prize money being awarded throughout the season. Also, for the first time, viewers are able to get in on the action as truTV introduces a Live Lightning Round call-in element into the premiere telecast of each new episode. At the end of each new episode, viewers are prompted to call in for a chance to win up to $3,000 each in cash to put towards their student debt by answering three trivia questions with Torpey broadcasting live from a studio in New York City. In addition to the new Live Lightning Round, the new season includes five themed-episodes that highlight the different ways student debt impacts people's lives: "It Started with a Tweet" for fans with student loan debt who asked to be on the show via social media; "Do Gooders" which features contestants working in the non-profit arena; "Too Broke To Wed" which highlights contestants whose debt is preventing them from marriage; "Back in the Nest" for those who were forced to move home because of their crushing student debt payments; and "Made in America" for first-generation Americans who are saddled with this debt.

On Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 10-11pm ET/PT, truTV premiered the Season 2 finale of PAID OFF WITH MICHAEL TORPEY, debuting back-to-back new episodes:

"You Stupid American" (10pm): College grads Jen, Jimmy and Shanique compete for a chance to pay off their student debt. Michael's neighbor, Mr. Old Man, barges in to give everyone a piece of his mind, and the contestants share the worst smells in their dorm rooms.

"That's Some Real Grown-Up Shit" (10:30pm): College grads Ayanna, Nick and Shannon compete for a chance to pay off their student loan debt. Michael proves unsuccessful getting a contestant to curse on TV, and we find out the best way to piss off your parents.
