Plot Synopsis

From creator David Jenkins and executive producer Taika Waititi, OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH is a half-hour comedy series that is (very) loosely based on the true adventures of an 18th-century would-be pirate, Stede Bonnet. After trading in the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede becomes captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede's fortunes change after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard. Stede and crew attempt to get their ship together and survive life on the high seas. The first three episodes of OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH dropped on Thursday, March 3, 2022 on HBO Max, which continues with three episodes on March 10, two episodes on March 17, and concludes with two episodes on March 24. OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH made its linear television debut with the series opener on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 10:30pm ET/PT on HBO, but the cable channel had no other episodes on its schedule at that time.

Season 2 of OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH premiered on Thursday, October 5, 2023 on Max, which released the first three episodes of the new season. Two episodes drop weekly on Thursday, October 12 and October 19, with the finale debuting on Thursday, October 26. After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede's fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard. To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas... they found love. Now, they have to survive it.

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, Max released "Mermen," the Season 2 finale of OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH. After watching the Republic of Pirates crumble, Stede and Zheng pursue Prince Ricky Barnes, the Revenge crew schemes to escape imprisonment, and Blackbeard plots a return to piracy ... leading to triumph and a devastating loss.
