Plot Synopsis
Created and written by Seth MacFarlane, THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the problems of everyday life. The series opens with a newly-promoted captain of the exploratory spaceship U.S.S. Orville being surprised when he learns that his ex-wife has been assigned as his First Officer. THE ORVILLE has a two-night series premiere, following the NFL doubleheaders at 8pm ET/5pm PT on consecutive Sundays -- September 10 & 17 -- before moving to its regular timeslot -- Thursdays at 9pm -- beginning September 21.
FOX premiered the second season of THE ORVILLE on a special night -- Sunday, December 30, 2018 -- from 8-9pm ET/5-6pm PT (live to all time zones), following the NFL ON FOX doubleheader. In Season 2, Ed and Kelly's relationship takes a new turn, while the ship's crew meets never-before-seen aliens, face old adversaries the Krill, make first contact with a new civilization and revisit the planet Moclus. In the season opener, "Ja'loja," The Orville heads towards Moclus for a unique ceremony, and life aboard the ship heats up when Kelly gives Ed some startling news, Gordon enlists John's help with his dating life, and Claire turns to Isaac for unlikely parenting advice. THE ORVILLE moved to its regular timeslot -- Thursdays at 9pm -- on January 3.
For its third season, THE ORVILLE moved to a new home on Hulu with a new title, THE ORVILLE: NEW HORIZONS. The Season 3 opener, "Electric Sheep," dropped on Thursday, June 2, 2022, with a new episode debuting each Thursday. The new season finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.
