Plot Synopsis
THE OFFICE is a mockumentary that delves into the professional and personal lives of the workers at Dunder Mifflin, a paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Led by regional manager Michael Scott for the first seven seasons, and then by Andy Bernard starting in Season 8, the loyal and often times unmotivated staff include: sales rep Jim Halpert, who shares his working space with Dwight Schrute, the arrogant assistant to the regional manager whose responsibilities have expanded as the new owner of the office building; Pam Beesly Halpert, the former office receptionist and now office administrator, who had an office romance with Jim which evolved into marriage followed by the birth of their daughter, Cece, and a second child on the way; Ryan Howard, the former temp, whose fall from grace as a Dunder Mifflin executive quickly landed him back at the bottom of the food chain in Scranton; Andy Bernard, the die-hard Cornell alumnus with endless and unique musical talents, who was recently named as the new office manager and has had a relationship with Erin, the office's receptionist; Darryl Philbin, the ambitious distribution coordinator, who moved from the warehouse to the main Dunder Mifflin sales offices; sales representatives Stanley Hudson and Phyllis Lapin-Vance; the accounting department of Angela Martin, Kevin Malone and Oscar Martinez; product oversight personnel Meredith Palmer, Kelly Kapoor and Creed Bratton; and Gabe Lewis and Toby Flenderson in human resources. Dunder-Mifflin is a division of Sabre, and the new Sabre CEO, Robert California, frequently worked in the conference room of D-M's Scranton office in Season 8. In Season 9, the final season of THE OFFICE, Andy returns from "Outward Bound-leadership training over the summer and he comes back pretty aggressively in charge," according to showrunner Greg Daniels. Plus, with Mindy Kaling leaving the show, her character Kelly leaves behind more than 4,000 unanswered customer complaint voicemails that two new hires, Clark and Pete (aka "the new Jim" and "Dwight, Jr."), are tasked to address. THE OFFICE ended its run on Thursday, May 16, 2013, with NBC airing a one-hour retrospective at 8pm ET/PT and then the 75-minute series finale at 9pm ET/PT, which featured the Dunder Mifflin employees gathering for a wedding months after the documentary aired.
