Season 1
Plot Synopsis
Nurse Jackie Peyton is a veteran ER nurse who does everything she can to help her patients -- even if that means she has to bend the rules. She might steal a money clip from a man who stabbed a prostitute and then give it to a pregnant widow who needs the cash. While navigating the health care system at work, she also deals with her own personal problems, like her drug addiction. At the end of the first season, Jackie struggled to keep her dual lives intact -- she appeared to be in jeopardy as Eddie discovered the truth about her marriage and children -- forever contaminating Jackie's pristine separation of her work life and her life at home. Season 2 picked up a few months after she cut ties with Eddie and all seemed well in Jackie's world, as she was determined to spend more time with her husband and two daughters. With Eddie out of the picture both personally and professionally, her access to drugs diminished, but her cravings did not. Back at All Saints Hospital, Dr. Cooper's newly vaulted stature within the hospital became a constant source of irritation to Jackie, while Zoey continued to model herself after her hero, Jackie, and Dr. O'Hara's biggest challenge was the realization that her best friend and confidant was less than truthful with her. Sam, the male nurse who recognized Jackie's addiction, joined the staff full time, as all of this transpired under the ever watchful eye of hospital administrator Gloria Akalitus. In Season 4, it was business as usual at All Saints, except for one small detail -- the hospital was purchased by the multi-national corporation, Quantum Bay, and the new director, Mike Cruz, arrived with a lengthy to-do list. Plus, Jackie is still separated from Kevin, who has moved to a new apartment, and Eddie was still in love with Jackie but she rebuffed his advances. Season 5, which premiered on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT, explored the consequences of Jackie's behavior: the shrapnel that affected everyone in her life because she was a drug addict. At the hospital, Jackie worked with two new doctors in the fifth season: Dr. Ike Prentiss, a veteran doctor with several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan under his belt, who is a no bullshit, get-it-done medical professional; and Dr. Carrie Roman, a beautiful first-year resident, who is put to the test after having a smooth and privileged life. In her personal life, Jackie's divorce was finalized and she met a new love interest -- Sergeant Frank Verelli, an NYPD patrol cop, who is confident and warm -- and her daughter, Grace, was acting out. In the Season 5 finale, Jackie popped a pill on the way to her sobriety party, after having been sober for nearly two seasons of the series. In the Season 6 opener -- which premiered on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime -- Jackie's back to using drugs, even while attending AA meetings, but now she's getting them at the gym. Meanwhile, Frank has no idea that she's using again, but deceit, decent and destruction are slowly taking over Jackie's life and affecting her relationship with her daughters. But Jackie does get a new best friend, Antoinette, who is part of her AA group. On Monday, March 31, 2014 -- just two weeks before the show's Season 6 premiere on Sunday, April 13 -- Showtime announced that it picked up NURSE JACKIE for a seventh season, which will begin filming in New York later this year. On Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Showtime premiered the 12-episode seventh and final season of NURSE JACKIE, which picks up at the exact moment that Season 6 left off. Jackie steps out of her mug shot and into a world of unrelenting consequences. Arrested, abandoned by those closest to her, Jackie's nursing license is revoked. This season, Jackie fights to reclaim her sobriety, her job, her people, her children and her identity. In the season opener, "Clean," Jackie suffers through a harrowing stay in a holding cell following her arrest at the end of last season. Knowing it's going to be a battle to win over Akalitus her keep her job, she pays a visit to hot-shot lawyer Barry Wolf.
