In recognition of its 125th anniversary, National Geographic Channel presented this weekly, Friday-night programming block that celebrates the spirit of exploration by showcasing the hotshots, the mavericks and the best in their field who have devoted their lives to groundbreaking discoveries. A NIGHT OF EXPLORATION features a combination of world-premiere specials and classic award-winning programs. After debuting in January 2013 with a 125th-anniversary special, "A New Age of Exploration: National Geographic at 125," A NIGHT OF EXPLORATION continued to air on Fridays at 8pm ET with no host, until June 14, 2013 when Alec Baldwin became the on-air host in the United States and globally in 171 countries. On his first night, Baldwin introduced "Crossing the Ice," which follows two Australian adventurers as they attempt to become the first to tackle the perilous journey from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back, completely unassisted.
