Plot Synopsis

Carson Daly rings in the New Year from Times Square, accompanied by some of the biggest names in music. Daly has hosted NBC's New Year's Eve live coverage from Times Square since welcoming New Year 2005. After hosting MTV's New Year's Eve party for five years and then taking one year off, Daly returned to TV to host NBC's New Year's Eve primetime special from 10-11pm on December 31, 2004. Following the success of that special, Daly has hosted late-night coverage every year -- except in 2017 (to ring in 2018) -- with additional primetime pre-party specials some years. Drawing on his musical connections from MTV's TRL, THE VOICE and LAST CALL WITH CARSON DALY, Daly draws spectacular featured performers:

On Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 10-11pm ET (live)/PT (tape) and 11:30pm-12:30am ET (live)/PT (tape), NBC aired two live, one-hour specials that rang in 2021 from Times Square, hosted by Carson Daly, along with co-hosts Amber Ruffin and Stephen "tWitch" Boss, from the heart of Times Square.

The night features performances from around the country by AJR, Busta Rhymes featuring Anderson .Paak, Chloe x Halle, CNCO, Jason Derulo, Goo Goo Dolls, Kylie Minogue, Pentatonix, Bebe Rexha featuring Doja Cat, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Sting featuring Shirazee.
