Plot Synopsis

Laura Diamond is an NYPD homicide detective who balances her day job with a crazy family life that includes two unruly twin boys -- with some help from her ex-husband, Jake, who covets the "good dad" role, which means he leaves the parenting duties to her. Jake, who was the captain in the same precinct as Laura, suffered a near-fatal injury and endured a power struggle, and returned to the precinct as a detective partnered with his ex-wife. Between cleaning up after her boys and cleaning up the streets, Laura is the first to admit she has her hot-mess moments, but somehow she makes it all work, and even finds time or her very sexy new chef boyfriend, Tony. But Laura, the precinct's gold child, does have a nemesis at work -- Meredith, a tightly wound and perfectly coiffed detective, who sees herself as being far more sophisticated. On Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, NBC aired the pilot as a special preview of THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA, one week before settling into its regular timeslot -- Wednesdays at 8pm ET/PT -- on September 24, 2014. THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA returned for its second season on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT on NBC, with Callie Thorne joining the cast as single mom Nancy Santiani, the no-nonsense new captain of the 2nd Precinct. In the season opener, "The Mystery of the Taken Boy," a boy is kidnapped from his TriBeCa family, so Laura and team are thrust into a high-stakes race against time and must uncover a host of family secrets in order to save the boy.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT, NBC premiered the season finale of THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA. In the season ender, "The Mystery of the End of Watch," the takedown of an international drug kingpin leads to tragedy at the 2nd precinct. Meanwhile, Jake makes a life-changing decision regarding his future with Laura. Guest starring Jenna Fischer, Debby Ryan, Mercedes Ruehl, and Scott Cohen.
