Plot Synopsis

Host Don Wildman travels across North America to investigate and explore tales of scandal, mystery, murder and intrigue behind many American museum artifacts, by revisiting the piece's most crucial events by reexamining what has been left behind. Each one-hour episode typically features three mysteries, including: a diary from an Arctic exploration; a stone giant thought to be the remnant of a race of enormous people; the Fiji mermaid; and a futuristic house that almost changed the world. Season 3, which returned on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 9pm ET, featured: a lantern that helped guide a teenage girl; a homemade barrel used in a stunt; a small metal fragment salvaged from a disaster; a poker chip from one of Las Vegas's worst disasters; a sword from the center of a Civil War prophecy; and much more. Season 4 debuted on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT in the middle of a MYSTERIES AT THE MUSEUM marathon (8pm-4am) on Travel Channel. The fourth season included stories about: Edison's electric pen, which helped create a multi-billion dollar industry; the bell of the Carroll Deering, whose crew mysteriously vanished at sea; the footprint of Lizard Man; and many more outrageous true stories. MYSTERIES AT THE MUSEUM returned for its sixth season on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, with a season opener that featured Don Wildman investigating a bright yellow car that once represented the promise of an automotive revolution, a mysterious musical instrument, and a strip of paper with a secret message that was passed across enemy lines. On Friday, September 12, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, Travel Channel aired the Season 7 premiere of MYSTERIES AT THE MUSEUM, as Don examines a brassiere that gave salacious schemers an unexpected boost, a plane that soared to safety in a daring rescue mission and a religious icon allegedly scorched by the forces of evil. In the season opener, "Cellophane Start, Eruption Hoax, Parking Lot King," Don examines a transparent roll of film that revolutionized the retail industry; a jacket that belonged to a prankster with an explosive sense of humor; and an unconventional excavation that puts a 500-year-old mystery to rest. MYSTERIES AT THE MUSEUM returned for its tenth season on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Travel Channel. In the season opener, "Indestructible Mike, Bubble Trouble, The Penny Man," Don examines an electric chair related to a bizarre crime; a marble table from a scientific experiment gone wrong; and a yearbook that reveals one determined student's smart scheme. Travel Channel premiered the first of 13 new one-hour episodes of MYSTERIES AT THE MUSEUM on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT. Through compelling interviews, rarely seen archival footage and re-creations, Don Wildman reveals incredible treasures. He inspects a key from the 1890s that unlocks the story of William Waldorf Astor and his family's revolution of luxury in New York City; explores a 15-foot long aircraft that recalls an ambitious dream that almost changed America forever, but never took off; and examines a compass belonging to famed explorer Percy Fawcett, who is believed to have inspired the beloved fictional character Indiana Jones. "We're digging deep into history and pulling out the fun, exciting and fascinating tales that will satisfy our viewers' curiosity about some of the world's hidden treasures," says Wildman. "There are so many museums, galleries, local archives and collections, each with numerous artifacts and stories to tell -- we've barely scratched the surface! We reveal the coolest stories from around the world."
