Plot Synopsis
This one-hour series travels around the world, revealing the legendary stories that are held within the walls of stunning castles, amazing manor houses and magnificent mansions. Each 60-minute episode of this series explores three different castles, including these three mansions in the series premiere: a monstrous castle in Germany, where Dr. Frankenstein conducted a series of sinister experiments in the 17th century; one of England's most famous country manors, the home of a cursed aristocrat, which contains long-buried Egyptian treasure; and Fort Royal, an isolated French fortress on the tiny island of Sainte-Marguerite, where a mysterious masked prisoner, known as the Man in the Iron Mask, was locked up for decades. Subsequent episodes feature mansions like: the Tower of London, where there was a crown jewels heist; home of the Marquis de Sade, a bastion in the South of France; an ancient German castle, which contains the enigma of Kaspar Hauser; the ruins of a Scottish castle, which was the site of a Loch Ness hoax; a colonial mansion in Virginia; an English country estate; a giant fortress in Scotland; an Italian villa; an upstate New York mansion; and many more castles and manors with outrageous tales. On Friday, January 2, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, this series returned for its second season, changing its name from CASTLE SECRETS & LEGENDS to MYSTERIES AT THE CASTLE for the new year. In the Season 2 opener, "Dracula, Queen and the Mistress, King Arthur," a foreboding Transylvanian castle provides the chilling inspiration for an infamous literary villain; a stunning French chateau incites a bitter rivalry between two powerful women; and a mythical monarch steps-into the real world at an English Abbey. Season 3 of MYSTERIES AT THE CASTLE premiered on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Travel Channel, immediately following a four-hour marathon of encore episodes. In the season opener, "The Diamond Necklace Affair, Topless Duel, Abseiling Escape," mysteries from castles around the world are uncovered, including deception at France's Versailles, a topless duel at Czech Republic's Kynzvart Castle and a war hero's death-defying bid for freedom at Germany's Konigstein.
