Plot Synopsis
This contemporary, documentary-style series, for the first time ever, explores the Muppets' personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, and desires. THE MUPPETS follows Kermit the Frog and the rest of the Muppet gang as they produce late-night talk show, "Up Late with Miss Piggy." Although Kermit and Miss Piggy are officially broken up and dating other people, Kermit still serves as the Executive Producer of her talk show, which is proving to be a very challenging task. Miss Piggy is a star in her own right and spends more time canoodling with Hollywood's elite than actually working. Fozzie Bear is the warm-up comic / sidekick for the show but is also balancing a serious relationship with Becky, a human woman whose parents do not approve of their inter-species relationship. Meanwhile, The Great Gonzo, the head writer for "Up Late," is very single. With the help of the staff writers Pepe the King Prawn and Rizzo, Gonzo will explore the perils of online dating. Scooter, Dr. Teeth, Janice, Animal, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker and the rest of the Muppets all have roles at "Up Late," but mostly just keep Kermit on his toes! After work, the crew usually heads over to Rowlf's Tavern to unwind, but of course the Muppet mayhem follows wherever they go. The series opens with Miss Piggy being furious that Kermit booked Elizabeth Banks as a guest on her late night talk show, "Up Late"; meanwhile, Fozzie Bear meets his girlfriend's parents, and Grammy Award-winning rock band Imagine Dragons performs their new single "Roots." THE MUPPETS features guest stars playing themselves, including Banks, Tom Bergeron, Josh Groban, Liam Hemsworth, Laurence Fishburne, Jay Leno, Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Lawrence, Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington, Topher Grace, and more. Bill Prady, who started his career with Henson and the Muppets, and Bob Kushell are co-creators and executive producers.

On Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 8-9pm ET/PT, ABC premiered the one-hour season finale of THE MUPPETS. In the night's first new episode (8pm), "Generally Inhospitable," when Miss Piggy breaks her leg rehearsing a dance number, Kermit gathers the crew and they broadcast "Up Late" from the hospital. Back at the studio, Rizzo, Pepe and Yolanda find creative ways to keep Pache (guest star Utkarsh Ambudkar) occupied so he doesn't ruin the show while Kermit is out. Willie Nelson also guest stars. Then, in the season finale (8:30pm), "Because...Love," after her stint in the hospital, Miss Piggy and Kermit reevaluate their relationship, and Kermit turns to guest star Jack White for advice.
