Nikki Glaser hosted the inaugural event, which debuted from 9-10:30pm on Monday, May 17, 2021 -- the day after the 2021 MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS -- on MTV, with a simulcast on VH1, CMT, MTV2, and Logo.

For its second installment, the 2022 MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS: UNSCRIPTED aired immediately following the 2022 MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS. Hosted by THE BACHELOR's Tayshia Adams live from the Barker Hanger, the event kicked off at 10pm ET (live)/PT (tape) on MTV, with a simulcast on VH1, BET, MTV2, CMT, Logo, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Paramount, Logo, Pop, and BET Her. This year, UNSCRIPTED introduces four new categories: Best Reality Return, Best Music Documentary, Best Reality Romance, and Best Reality Star.
