Plot Synopsis

Set in the late '80s/early '90s in the West of Ireland, this semi-autobiographical series, written by and starring Chris O'Dowd, is a half-hour comedy about 12-year-old Martin Moone and his bearded imaginary friend, Sean Murphy. Through the misguidance of Sean, every day is a fascinating adventure for Martin, and his unique perspective on the world is revealed through his inspired sketches, which come to life as animation. At home, Martin is the youngest child in a family that lives in a chaotic and cramped household where the parents and his three older sisters are all pursuing different lifestyles. Once he steps outside the house, Martin deals with bullies, long commutes to school, and life as an altar boy, but he always has Sean ready to help him navigate the challenges of his eccentric childhood. On Thursday, April 23, 2014, U.S. viewers could watch Season 2 of MOONE BOY for the first time when Hulu released the entire six-episode second season. In Season 2, Martin starts at his new secondary school and promptly develops a crush on his art teacher, but his love really blossoms when a group of Travellers move into the field next to the Moones. Plus, the second season includes: a religious-themed stag party; a Halloween adventure on a river raft that leads to an encounter with the mysterious Island Joe; and a St. Patrick's Day parade in the middle of Boyle that none of the Moones will quickly forget.

Hulu released the six-episode third season of MOONE BOY on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Wrapping up the late '80s in Seasons 1 & 2, the Moone household comes crashing into the '90s following the addition of Dessie and baby Rose to the chaotic brood. In no hurry to grow up, Martin and his imaginary pal Sean, plus best mate Padraic, enjoy a fresh batch of escapades, from becoming door-to-door salesman and hunting for UFOs, to wrangling pet donkey Donkey Kong. In the Season 3 opener, "Where the Streets Do Have Names," to celebrate their wedding anniversary, Liam and Debra abandon the kids and head for the sunny south-east. Meanwhile Martin and Padraic spend the weekend in Dublin and discover their hidden talents as encyclopedia salesmen.
