Plot Synopsis

Maine-based Bigfoot hunter Bill Brock and his team -- pro fighter Jeremy 'The Beast' Bates, physician Casey Onik, and hunter-tracker R. Craig McGhee -- travel across America to investigate deadly monsters living in the most inaccessible environments on Earth: underground caves, caverns, and mines. There, they seek out legendary creatures that thrive in the cold, damp darkness beneath the surface. During their underground investigations, one wrong move could turn the cave into their tomb, but the most dangerous threat of all is the pitch-black darkness and the risk of coming face to face with a cave creature. In each 60-minute episode, the team searches for a different monster, including: the Olitiau (aka Cave Demon), a giant and deadly reptilian bat creature in the maze that is Volcano Caverns in Flagstaff, AZ; the Mapinguari, a descendant of the giant prehistoric sloth that has been feeding on Northern California's black bear population in Graveyard Gulch; the SubterAlien, a creature that lives in the abandoned Shadow Mine in Calaveras County, CA; the Draco, a vicious lizard/human hybrid that lives beneath the surface of the dark waters in a river cave called Cross Creek Cavern in Northern California; the Aswang -- a legendary shape-shifting, vampiric creature, part dog and part human -- that resides in Apache Death Cave, the site of an infamous Native American massacre in Two Guns, AZ; and the Rake, a murderous creature living in a newly discovered section of The Grand Canyon Caverns in Peach Springs, AZ. Originally scheduled to premiere on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10pm and 10:30pm ET/PT on Destination America, the series was pulled from the cable channel's schedule at the last minute. Two weeks later, MONSTERS UNDERGROUND debuted on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10pm and 10:30pm ET/PT on Discovery, which aired only those two episodes of the series. After a five-week break, MONSTERS UNDERGROUND returned to televisions on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10pm and 10:30pm ET/PT on Destination America, which aired the remaining four episodes on consecutive Fridays, followed by repeat broadcasts of the first two episodes on Friday, October 24.
