Plot Synopsis

"The London Times" restaurant critic Giles Coren travels across North America, searching for a hidden gem to put on the culinary map by giving them a million-dollar review. It's said that a positive review from this bitingly funny and controversial writer is worth a million dollars and that his words can change the fates and fortunes of the restaurants he visits. With help from his researcher Julia Pileggi, Giles travels city-to-city to discover some of the most enticing and authentic restaurants in need of the acknowledgment that can help them pop. From Philadelphia, Charleston, and Providence, to Toronto, St. John's Newfoundland, and Quebec City, he'll assess and select one winning restaurant in each city. Caring little if the restaurant is a hole-in-the-wall, or a Michelin-starred destination, Coren judges his experiences based on the chef's passion for food, the restaurant's atmosphere, and service. This levels the playing field for all restaurants hoping to win his review. In each one-hour episode, Giles visits five eateries in the same city, including these locales: Philadelphia (Vedge; Cheu Noodle Bar; The Mildred; The Avenue Delicatessen; Kanella); Toronto (The Atlantic; Opus; King Place; Small Town Food Co.; Agave y Aguacate); Charleston, SC (Alluette's Cafe; The Obstinate Daughter; Poogan's Porch; The Lot; Lee Lee's Hot Kitchen); St John's (Saltwater; Chinched Bistro; Raymond's; The Reluctant Chef; Bacalao); Providence, RI (North; Los Andes; Nick's on Broadway; Joe Marzilli's Old Canteen; The Dorrance); and Quebec City (Hosaka-Ya; L'affaire est Ketchup; Soupe & Cie; Panache; La Traite). On Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, BBC America aired the Season 1 finale of MILLION DOLLAR CRITIC. The season ender features five eateries in Quebec City: Hosaka-Ya; L'affaire est Ketchup; Soupe & Cie; Panache; and La Traite.
