Plot Synopsis
Founded in 2008 as the EagleBank Bowl and called the Military Bowl since 2010, this bowl game has been played in Washington, DC each year to benefit a charity. The inaugural game raised money for local charities, including Positive Choices. When the name was changed in 2010, the event announced that proceeds from the day will benefit the USO. The 2008 EagleBank Bowl was the first bowl game of the season and marked the first time a postseason college football game was played in Washington, DC. The 2020 installment was cancelled because too few teams were available to play, primarily because of COVID-19. In 2021, the Military Bowl presented by Peraton benefited USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, and was set to feature a matchup between teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (Boston College) and the American Athletic Conference (East Carolina). The 2021 Military Bowl was canceled the day before its scheduled kickoff when Boston College had a COVID outbreak amongst its players, leaving the team with too few players after coronavirus-related issues, season-ending injuries, other medical issues, transfers, and opt-outs.
