Plot Synopsis
Co-created, executive produced and narrated by Mike Judge, TALES FROM THE TOUR BUS is a half-hour series that features animated interviews with former bandmates, friends and other erstwhile associates, who share uncensored anecdotes about the exploits of these artists, brought to life by animated reenactments, woven together with live-action archival performance footage and photos. The series kicks off with an episode devoted to Johnny Paycheck, followed by episodes about Jerry Lee Lewis, George Jones and Tammy Wynette (two parts), Billy Joe Shaver, Waylon Jennings (two parts) and Blaze Foley. On Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, Cinemax premiered the second season of TALES FROM THE TOUR BUS. While the first season of the show spotlighted country musicians, the new season focuses on funk music greats, including George Clinton, Rick James, James Brown and Bootsy Collins. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Parliament-Funkadelic founder Clinton serves as consulting producer and provides original music for the series. The season opener highlights the career of George Clinton, a cornerstone figure in funk music, who goes from singing a cappella in a barbershop to chasing Motown glory in Detroit with his band, the Parliaments, and forges a lasting sound that goes on to fuel the new genre of hip-hop.

Cinemax premiered the Season 2 finale of TALES FROM THE TOUR BUS on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT. The season ender focuses on Betty Davis' uninhibited sexuality, marked by a raunchy stage presence and suggestive lyrics, which made her brand of funk unforgettable, but she disappeared from music after being boycotted by religious groups, black political leaders and the NAACP.
