Plot Synopsis

Loosely inspired by true events, this one-hour scripted drama series focuses on a scandal erupting in Brazil during an investigation of alleged government corruption via oil and construction companies. Police officer Marco Ruffo investigates money launderer Roberto Ibrahim, and stumbles upon the biggest corruption scandal in the nation's history, which also causes his family to be threatened. While the team works hard to pull off an operation involving multiple targets, important evidence goes missing. Meanwhile, Ruffo's mentee, Verena Cardon, continues her investigation into Ibrahim and the currency dealers who work with him. On Friday, March 23, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the eight-episode first season of this Brazilian-language series.

Netflix released the second season of THE MECHANISM on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. Despite changes at home and work, Ruffo resumes his fight, following a corrupt new target and a trail of kickbacks into the upper reaches of politics. Season 2 opens Ruffo getting a valuable piece of info from the secretary of the 13th contractor, Ricardo Bretch; meanwhile, Verena and Guilhome find themselves under investigation. Then, Vander's illegal wiretap pays off. When Ibrahim's new venture gets off to a bad start, his money-hungry wife makes a fatal error.
