Plot Synopsis

THE MATCH is a live golf event series, featuring iconic pro golfers competing against each other, while sometimes being joined by pro athletes from other sports.

The fourth edition of THE MATCH was broadcast live from Moonlight Basin (Big Sky, Montana) at 5pm ET/2pm PT on TNT, TBS and truTV, with World Golf Hall of Famer Phil Mickelson -- following his historic 2021 PGA Championship win -- and seven-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady teeing off against 2020 U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau and reigning NFL league MVP Aaron Rodgers. Brian Anderson hosts, and he's joined by analysts Charles Barkley, Trevor Immelman & Larry Fitzgerald, and course reporter Cheyenne Woods.

The sixth edition of THE MATCH was broadcast live from the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT on TNT, truTV, and HLN, featuring a foursome of legendary NFL quarterbacks -- Tom Brady & Aaron Rodgers vs. Patrick Mahomes & Josh Allen -- in a 12-hole "shamble" competition. Ernie Johnson hosts the live telecast, alongside Charles Barkley, J.J. Watt, Trevor Immelman and Amanda Renner. Capital One's The Match will follow a "shamble" format: All four golfers tee off at each hole, and each team selects their best tee shot to play. From then on, golfers play their own ball until they hole out, with the best golfer's score determining the hole's winning team.

THE MATCH returned for its seventh edition on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 7pm ET/4pm PT on TNT, tbs, truTV and HLN. The iconic Tiger Woods is set to team up with Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy to face Americans Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth -- the quartet boasting 24 Major golf championships and each previously ranked number one player in the world. While McIlroy, Thomas and Spieth are making their debut at the event, this is Woods' third time competing, splitting his two previous appearances, including a one-stroke victory alongside his partner Peyton Manning over Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in May 2020.

The eighth installment of THE MATCH for the first time ever features NFL and NBA superstar duos going head-to-head, as teammates Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce face off against Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The 12-hole event, to be held Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Wynn Las Vegas with coverage beginning at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT on TNT, truTV and HLN. The competition is conducted within a scramble format: Each player tees off and each team selects their best ball from which to play their subsequent shot. This continues the team holes out, and the lowest score awards that team the hole. Ernie Johnson returns to host his third THE MATCH and is joined by Charles Barkley, making his seventh appearance in the event as a player or commentator. Trevor Immelman makes his sixth event appearance as analyst, and Kathryn Tappen returns as course reporter for the second time. Draymond Green and Von Miller join the team as special contributors, providing commentary while following the participants from a golf cart throughout the live competition.

THE MATCH closes out the front nine on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 7-10pm ET/4-7pm PT on TNT, truTV and HLN, which simulcast the ninth installment, where Rory McIlroy, Lexi Thompson, Rose Zhang and Max Homa compete in a 12-hole mixed skins format at The Park in West Palm Beach, FL. The half-hour Match Pre-Game begins at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT. Unlike previous versions, the four golfers compete individually -- instead of in pairs -- to earn money for charity on the course. Players tee off from the same tee boxes on the four par 3s (holes 3, 5, 8 and 11) and use varying tee boxes for the men and women on the remaining holes. The skin values, which will be donated to the First Tee in the name of the winner, progressively increase throughout the match:

- Holes 1 thru 4: $100,000 each
- Holes 5 thru 8: $150,000 each
- Holes 9 thru 11: $200,000 each
- Hole 12: $500,000

Plus, the four par 3s have closest-to-the-pin challenges for an additional $100,000 and if any player makes a hole-in-one on those holes, $1 million will be donated on the player's behalf.

For the broadcast team, Ernie Johnson handles play-by-play duties as host with Charles Barkley and Trevor Immelman once again as analysts. Kathyrn Tappen returns as the on-course reporter. Christina Kim joins the broadcast as an analyst, while DJ Khaled and Paul Bissonnette provide on-course commentary from golf carts.
