Plot Synopsis
MARTIN CLUNES: ISLANDS OF THE PACIFIC is a docuseries that follows Martin Clunes, as he fulfills a lifelong yearning to follow in the footsteps of the Kon-Tiki expedition by embarking on an epic, ocean-wide adventure in search of the real Pacific. He begins in French Polynesia and ends in the Galapagos Islands, encountering coral atolls, jungle-clad mountains, and lava-spewing volcanoes, plus an astonishing variety of animal life and fascinating people and cultures. MARTIN CLUNES: ISLANDS OF THE PACIFIC made its U.S. debut on Monday, June 27, 2022, as Acorn TV released all three episodes of the first season:
"French Polynesia": Martin explores French Polynesia through French baguettes, coral wine, and an outing on a Polynesian outrigger canoe. He swims with sharks, investigates Marlon Brando's wildlife program, and sails to the remote Marquesas to meet a local horse whisperer.
"South West Pacific": In Vanuatu Martin climbs an active volcano and meets a tribe who worship Prince Philip. In Tonga he meets a third-gender leiti and a princess. In Fiji he visits an island singer and a tribe tricked out of their homeland by a British mining company.
"Galapagos": Martin explores the legendary Galapagos, getting up close to sea lions, iguanas, tortoises, penguins, finches, and baby sharks. He joins conservation expeditions, sees evolution in action, and visits a nun, an organic farm, and the site of a murder mystery.

In the second season of MARTIN CLUNES: ISLANDS OF THE PACIFIC, Martin continues his tour of the Pacific. Season 2 made its U.S. debut on Monday, December 18, 2023, as Acorn TV released all three episodes of the new season:
"Papau New Guinea": Martin travels to Papua New Guinea to experience life among the subsistence farmers of the Trobriand Islands. Next, he visits the volcanic isle of New Britain, where he's reminded of the fragility of island existence in the Pacific Ocean.
"The Philippines": From Manila's jeepneys and bamboo bikes to Catholic fiestas and family feasts, Martin explores the wonderful sights of the Philippines, including tribal burials, rice god rituals, shamans, and cuddly tarsier primates.
"Micronesia": Martin travels to Guam to see the effect of invasive species on remote islands and discovers animals driven to the edge of extinction. In Palau, he learns about marine conservation and meets the endangered hawksbill turtle and the rare dugong.
