Plot Synopsis
In this intervention series, friends, family and relationship experts help love addicts rediscover themselves, giving them an opportunity to understand their behavior, break off the toxic relationship, and chart a new path. But it's up to the the love-addicted man or woman to make the choice to more forward or return to their bad love, leaving their family behind. Under the premise of doing a documentary on relationships, the couples' relationship patterns are captured on camera. Then a formal intervention is planned, after which the love addicts make their choice. The program checks back 30 days later to see if they've freed themselves or fallen back into the negative relationship. Men and women -- no matter how smart, beautiful or worldly -- can find themselves in relationships that are demoralizing and soul shattering. For some women, it's married men. For others, it's players, control freaks or countless variations of emotional abusers. Men can be addicted to bad love, too, including those who date ice princesses and gold diggers. In each of these cases, friends and family can be cut off if they say something critical, or be forced to watch silently while someone they love goes through hell. To help them make a difference, LOVE ADDICTION provides these families and friends with a therapist or relationship expert: Dr. Thema Bryant-Davis, an Associate Professor at Pepperdine University, is a licensed psychologist, poet, dancer, and minister who she sat with K-Ci and JoJo during their journey to come clean; Hasani Pettiford, founder of the Touch & Agree Family Institute in New Jersey, has been a recognized authority on human sexuality, interpersonal relationships and personal growth and development; and Dr. Alduan Tartt, one of the youngest African-Americans to receive his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Michigan, has teaches young women on issues of self empowerment and is currently partnered with author/publisher Curtis Benjamin on "Saving Our Daughters Volume 5: Who Will Save the Little Girl."
