Plot Synopsis
This half-hour comedy is about a circle of friends in a fantasy football league who learn about male friendship, marriage, parenting, suburbia, and growing up (or refusing to grow up). Fantasy football is supposed to be an outlet for good-natured competition between friends and colleagues, but deception, trickery, one-upmanship, and a win-at-all costs mentality are all-too-prevalent, causing the emotions of fantasy football to affect personal relationships, marriages and the workplace. The League includes: Pete, the perennial league champ who is struggling to become an adult; Kevin, a successful assistant DA and happily married father who covets the elusive League trophy; Ruxin, who has not won a fantasy title yet but has no doubt he is the smartest of the group; Andre, the most successful of the group who has long been their punching bag -- dating back to high school; Taco, Kevin's little brother, who is a part-time musician and full-time stoner with little interest in fantasy other than hanging with his buddies (whom he struggles to remember); and Jenny, Kevin's wife, who is his (secret) better half in the fantasy league. In October 2012, as Season 4 begins, Kevin and Jenny welcome their new baby, who the couple quickly uses to gain an advantage in their fantasy league. Plus, the group heads south for the Dallas Cowboys' training camp, and Kevin must defend last season's asterisk victory. The new season features guest stars like: NFL players RGIII & Trent Richardson; Jeff Goldblum, returning as Ruxin's father; Robert Wagner, introduced as Pete's grandfather; Julia Duffy, portraying Kevin and Taco's mother; JB Smoove, playing "the most vain man you've ever met in a wheelchair"; and many more. Season 5 debuted on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:30pm ET/PT on FXX, two days after the new network launched. The fifth season opens with the guys traveling to Los Angeles for Andre and Trixie's destination wedding, where Ruxin refuses to do his Sacko punishments. Plus, last year's winner, never-before-seen Ted (guest star Adam Brody), appears and has a few surprises for everyone at the draft. THE LEAGUE returned for its 13-episode sixth season on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on FXX. In the Season 6 premiere, "Sitting Shiva," Kevin struggles with being married to the Shiva champ. Meanwhile, Andre's new found confidence is unbearable, Taco hits the links, and the guys attend a funeral. Later in the season, NFL analyst Jay Glazer and Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles make guest appearances. The seventh and final season of THE LEAGUE premiered on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on FXX. In the season opener, "That Other Draft," Marshawn Lynch attends the Taco Corp Annual Board Meeting, Jenny is a VIP at the big Draft in Chicago, Kevin has a run in with Seahawks GM John Schneider, and Pete bumps into his ex-wife Meegan.
