Plot Synopsis

Each Sunday at 11pm ET/PT on HBO, host John Oliver takes a satirical look at the week in news, breaking down the biggest stories in politics and current events, presenting pre-taped pieces, and interviewing one guest at the end of each half-hour episode. For the pre-taped pieces, "basically we can do anything we like. We could do man-on-the-street interviews. We might go overseas to shoot a piece or make a fake documentary," according to Oliver in an interview with TVGuide.com. LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER is taped on Sunday evening in New York, just hours before its broadcast, allowing Oliver the chance to lampoon the timeliest issues. When this series premiered on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 11pm ET/PT, Oliver's first guest was Gen. Keith Alexander, marking the general's first interview since he retired as director of the National Security Agency and head of U.S. Cyber Command.

LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER returned for its 35-episode second season on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 11pm ET/PT on HBO. The series will take a few breaks during the year, with the Season 2 finale scheduled for November 2015.

The 35-episode third season of LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER premiered on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 11pm ET/PT on HBO.
