Plot Synopsis
Reunited 60 years after Alan asked Celia on a date when they were teenagers, these two widows rediscover each other on Facebook and rekindle a passionate relationship that fate stole from them decades ago. Celia and Alan are both widowed and in their seventies. When their respective grandsons put their details on Facebook, they rediscover a passionate relationship that started over 60 years ago. As their lives collide for a second time, the couple laments what might have been, as they embark on a life-affirming journey together. While they plan their wedding, they encounter unexpected situations that occur when anybody plans their big day, but they also learn more about family and the complications their relationship causes, especially for their grown daughters. PBS aired the U.S. premiere of Season 2 on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT (check local listings). The second season opens with Alan and Celia continuing to negotiate family baggage to plan a life together. Having come so close to losing each other forever -- thanks to Alan's near fatal heart attack -- the couple decides to have a romantic secret wedding as soon as possible. But how will their respective daughters react? The uptight Caroline and rebellious Gillian are discovering they actually quite like each other, however Gillian's need to own up to her night with Caroline's ex-husband John could jeopardize the soon-to-be stepsisters' fledgling friendship.
On Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT (check local listings) on PBS, LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX returned for its third season in the United States. In Season 3, Celia and Alan are planning to make the most of their time together when a surprise visitor stops them in their tracks. Caroline and Kate settle into married life and look forward to motherhood, Kate begins her third trimester and a devastating event shocks everyone. Old habits come back to haunt Gillian as she grapples with following her head over her heart.

Part 1 (Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 8/7c): Caroline's new headship involves the family moving to a ramshackle farmhouse in Huddersfield in time for Christmas; Alan has a difficult conversation with Gillian about where he'd like to be buried; meanwhile, Gillian is consumed by thoughts of the afterlife convinced she's being haunted by Eddie. Part 2 (Sunday, December 24, 2017 at 8/7c): During the big pre-Christmas shop, Caroline tells Gillian the truth about why she had to take the new headship; Gillian's mounting guilt over Eddie's death drives her to make a life-changing decision; it's the night of Celia's play, and a twist of fate means Alan is forced to confront his fears.

(When these episodes aired in the UK, they were called Season 5.) After seven years of marriage, Alan and Celia discover that wedded bliss isn't always blissful. Clashing politics, Alan's new job and a wild local lad create tension. Meanwhile, Celia's daughter, Caroline, gets emotionally embroiled at work, while up at the farm, Gillian faces trouble with a giraffe! Into all this flies Alan's brother, Ted, but he only bought a one-way ticket.
