Plot Synopsis
Created by and starring Will Forte, THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is a single-camera comedy that centers on the life and adventures of an average guy -- and humanity's last hope as the last human on Earth -- who discovers what life is like when no one is telling you what you can and cannot do. The year is 2022, and after an unlikely event, only one man is left on earth -- Phil Miller -- who used to be just an average guy who loved his family and hated his job at the bank. Now, in his RV, Phil searches the country for other survivors. He has traveled to every city, every town and every outpost in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and has found no one, which leads him to the painful realization that he is almost certainly the last living being on the face of the Earth. As he returns to his hometown of Tucson, he's not about to give up now. He is sad and so very lonely. But he'll get through this, because there's a small kernel of hope that somewhere out there is another survivor. And maybe one day, they'll run into each other. That would be a good day. And if that survivor happened to be a woman? Well, then that would be a great day. In the meantime, all he wants is for someone -- anyone -- to find him in Tucson. THE LAST MAN ON EARTH premiered with a special one-hour event of back-to-back episodes on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 9-10pm ET/PT, moving to its regular timeslot (9:30-10pm) the following week. Season 2 of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH premiered on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 9:30pm ET/PT on FOX. In the season opener, "Is There Anybody Out There," Phil and Carol leave Tucson behind and strike out on their own in a road trip across the United States. During Season 2, the second Phil Miller died of a botched appendectomy, and the group later relocated to Malibu, where Mike Miller, Tandy's astronaut brother, finally found the group after spending two years alone in outer space. In the season finale, Mike was sequestered from the group when he showed signs of having the virus, and Malibu appeared to be under siege as unknown, seemingly hostile survivors approached the beach. Season 3 of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH premiered on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 9:30pm ET/PT on FOX. The season opener, "General Breast Theme with Cobras," picks up where the Season 2 finale left off, with the group's safety in jeopardy as armed intruders in hazmat suits storm the Malibu beach near their home, and no one can agree on what to do. While Melissa takes drastic action, Tandy gets a new lesson in fashion. Season 4 of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH premiered on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 9:30pm ET/PT on FOX. In the upcoming fourth season, the survivors continue their sojourn through a post-virus world, as they set sail toward Mexico to avoid nuclear fallout. The boat, which no one really knows how to steer, gets a bit more crowded, as Pamela (guest star Kristen Wiig) and her dog, Jeremy, get on board.
