Plot Synopsis

LAST COMIC STANDING is a reality series that searches for the funniest comic in the United States. In Season 7, hosted by Craig Robinon, celebrity talent judges in Los Angeles and New York watch performances from aspiring and professional comedians, including some of the best and brightest comics from all over the country. The finalists live together while performing weekly comedic challenges, and each winner is granted immunity for that week's elimination challenge. At the end of each week, contestants enter a booth and announce "I know I'm funnier than [person's name]." The person who is named most frequently participates in that night's head-to-head elimination challenge and gets to choose his/her competitor from any of the challenging contestants. After the head-to-head competition, the studio audience votes for their favorite comedian, and the comic with the fewest votes is eliminated. These weekly challenges and head-to-head elimination competitions continue until only five comedians remain. Then, all of the remaining contestants perform a live routine each week and viewers vote by phone to determine which comics advance. The comedian receiving the fewest votes is eliminated. The last comic standing wins a $250,000 prize and an exclusive talent deal with NBC. After a four-year break, LAST COMIC STANDING returned for its eighth season on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 9-11pm ET/PT on NBC, with a new host, JB Smoove, and all-new judges: Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Russell Peters. Season 8, which is executive produced by Wanda Sykes and Page Hurwitz, opened with 100 of America's top comics competing for 20 spots in an invitation-only audition. These 20 then compete in a semifinal round, with the top 10 moving into the challenge rounds. In this phase, they compete in different comedy disciplines, such as sketch, improv and stand-up, proving themselves both individually and in teams. The Season 8 winner takes home a prize package worth $250,000 that includes a cash prize, an NBC talent deal and a half-hour scripted project to be developed by Universal Television. On Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 9-11pm ET/PT on NBC, LAST COMIC STANDING returned for its ninth season with new judge Norm Macdonald alongside current judges Roseanne Barr and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Plus, Anthony Jeselnik joined as the new host this season, while Wanda Sykes and Page Hurwitz once again executive produce, along with Javier Winnik. The new eight-episode season opens up with invitation-only auditions, as the top 100 comics in America vie for 40 spots. These 40 then compete in a semifinal round and the best of the best emerge, with the top 10 moving into the new head-to-head round. In this phase, they are paired in a single-elimination round of stand-up stand offs. The top five comedians move on to the finals, where the funniest of all takes the coveted title of "Last Comic Standing," winning a prize package worth $250,000, including a development deal for their own television show.
