Plot Synopsis
Based on H.E. Bates' novel "The Darling Buds of May," THE LARKINS is a dramedy series that follows the warmhearted, wheeler-dealer adventures of the Larkin family in the idyllic Kent countryside of the 1950s. The story opens with plans for the May Day Fair underway in the village, but everything is not as peaceful as it appears. Mariette is keen to leave home and see the world; Ma and Pop are devastated and doing their best to convince her to stay. Meanwhile, Ma is furious that village gossip suggests Pop is uncultured and illiterate, so he buys her a Rolls Royce to help rectify matters. But then the tax man arrives. Mariette has agreed to stay for the summer, but her heart is being pulled between Charley the tax man and Tom Fisher. Love must take a back seat as the Larkins convince Charley that they don't need to sell the farm to pay their back tax. While Pop makes an offer to the Bluff-Gores for their country pile, Charley grows furious that Mariette has tried to fool him with her charms. THE LARKINS made its U.S. debut on Monday, December 13, 2021, as Acorn TV released the first two episodes. A new episode debuted each Monday though January 10, 2022.
Season 2 of THE LARKINS made its U.S. debut on Monday, March 20, 2023 on Acorn TV, as the streaming service released the first two episodes of the new season. Two installments dropped weekly through April 3. The second season is set in the summer of 1959. In the season opener, "Bad Neighbours," Pop Larkin manages to sell the crumbling mansion next door, making enough on the deal to start building himself a swimming pool. He and Ma struggle to warm to their new neighbors, the Jerebohms, after a hilariously dire dinner party.
