Plot Synopsis

A criminal mastermind known as The Professor recruits Tokio and seven other criminals, who take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain as the man behind the scenes manipulates the police to carry out his plan. The Professor's plan mandated zero bloodshed, but things didn't go according to that plan. Hostage negotiator Raquel makes initial contact with the Professor. One of the hostages is a crucial part of the thieves' plans. When Raquel suffers a personal crisis with her ex, the hostages become frightened by the gunshots they overheard -- all while the thieves argue among themselves. The thieves then let a medical team enter the Mint, and an undercover policeman sneaks in with them. A break in the investigation and a mistake by one of the thieves puts the Professor at serious risk of being discovered. Finally, after a cat-and-mouse chase, the Professor meets Raquel's mother under stressful circumstances; meanwhile, at the Mint, the thieves offer the hostages a decision: money or freedom? On Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, LA CASA DE PAPEL had it U.S. premiere, as Netflix released the first 13 episodes of the first season of this Spanish-language thriller.

On Friday, April 6, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the second installment of the LA CASA DE PAPEL in the United States. This batch of episodes oopens with forensic experts combing the Toledo country house for DNA, while the Professor loses control. Inside the Mint, the robbers' nerves reach a breaking point. Then, the police interrogate the first robber to be captured. Furious over Berlin's recent actions, Rio takes a stand against him. Hoping to learn the Professor's identity, Raquel appeals to her captive's emotions. A punishment for "high treason" sparks a revolt among the robbers.

Part 3 of LA CASA DE PAPEL premiered in the United States when Netflix released all eight episodes of this new installment. The Professor and his team reunite to free Rio, this time targeting the Bank of Spain with a daring and dangerous new plan. The Resistance continues. In the season opener, "We're Back," Rio is captured, and a distraught Tokyo turns to the Professor for help. Armed with a bold new plan, they reunite the team in order to rescue him.

LA CASA DE PAPEL returned for its eight-episode fourth season on Friday, April 3, 2020, as Netflix released the entire new season. Part 4 begins in chaos: the professor thinks that Lisbon has been executed, Rio and Tokyo have blown up an army tank and Nairobi is struggling between life and death. The gang is going through one of its toughest moments and the rise of an enemy among its ranks will put the heist in serious danger.

The second half of Season 5 dropped on Friday, December 3, 2021 on Netflix, ending the series run. In the mid-season finale, "Escape Valve," Sierra takes advantage of the Professor's grief and gains the upper hand. Meanwhile, the team deals with the emotional fallout of their dead friend.
