Plot Synopsis

KNIGHTFALL is a one-hour scripted drama series that explores the medieval politics and warfare of the Knights Templar, the most powerful, wealthy and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages who were entrusted with protecting Christianity's most precious relics. The series opens after the fall of the city of Acre, the Templar's last stronghold in the Holy Land, where the Holy Grail is lost. Years later, a clue emerges suggesting the whereabouts of the Grail and sends the Templars, led by the noble, courageous and headstrong Templar Knight Landry, on a life-or-death mission to find the lost Cup of Christ. Landry is the noble, courageous, and headstrong Templar Knight who serves as a driving force behind the Templar's quest to retrieve Christianity's most prized relic: The Holy Grail. As a boy, Landry was left on the steps of an orphanage and raised by nuns, until meeting Godfrey and running away to be his squire. Godfrey has tutored and trained him so that he has become a skilled and respected warrior monk. But Landry's faith in God and in himself has been deeply shaken by the failure of the last Crusade. After years of lamenting the loss of the Grail, Landry's hope reignites, sparking him to guide his fellow Templars on a journey of mystery, faith, and bloodshed. Landry is joined by others, like Godfrey, who, as the Master of the Templars, is their greatest warrior, a man of immense faith and wisdom who conceals many secrets surrounding the Holy Grail. His number one priority is to protect the Grail, at all costs. Though all of the Templars respect Godfrey, Landry's affection for him extends beyond that of pupil and master; Godfrey is the father Landry never had. Unlike most Templars, Tancrede was once married, but he gave up married life in order to join the Templars. As the steadfast, brave, and resolute knight who venerates his Templar vows above all else, Tancrede imagines himself as the heir apparent to Godfrey, the Master and Commander of the Paris Temple. On the quest for the most-prized relic in all of Christendom, Tancrede comes to understand what his role must be. Gawain is the greatest swordsman of the Templar Order, but he is crippled by an injury sustained in the Siege of Acre. Unable to fight, and with his heroism no longer celebrated, he struggles to maintain his loyalty to the Order, just as he struggles to come to terms with his physical limitations. Gawain feels that, of all the Templars, he has the most to gain from the recovery of the Holy Grail. From their battles in the Holy Land, to their clash with the King of France, to the dark events leading to the demise of the Templar Order on Friday the 13th, 1307 -- a date which became synonymous with bad luck. Focusing on themes such as belief, sacrifice, politics, love, power and revenge, this series goes deep into the clandestine world of this legendary brotherhood of warrior monks to find out who these knights were, how they lived, and what they died believing.

Season 2 of KNIGHTFALL premieres Monday, March 25, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on History Channel. In the second season, Mark Hamill joins the cast as Talus, a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades, who survived captivity for ten years in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order. Also, Tom Forbes portrays Prince Louis, the violent and unpredictable son of King Philip and heir to the throne, and Genevieve Gaunt replaces Sabrina Bartlett as Isabella, the daughter of King Philip. Plus, Clementine Nicholson recurs as Margaret, Princess of Burgundy, the devoted wife of Prince Louis of France. Upon joining Louis in Paris and eager to produce an heir to the French throne, Margaret will discover what life is really like as a member of the royal family and the future Queen of France. In the season opener, "God's Executioner," banished from the Knights Templar after the discovery of his affair with Queen Joan, Landry must work to redeem himself under the watchful eye of a mysterious veteran of the Crusades. King Philip formulates a plan to take action against the Templars, while dealing with the return of his erratic, eldest son, Prince Louis.

On Monday, May 13, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT, History Channel premiered the Season 2 finale of KNIGHTFALL. In the season ender, "While I Breathe, I Trust the Cross," the death of the Knights Templar Order is imminent as Landry and his Templar brothers are sentenced to burn at the stake.
