Plot Synopsis

JULIA is inspired by Julia Child's life and her long-running television series, THE FRENCH CHEF, which pioneered the modern cooking show. Through Julia's life and her singular joie de vivre, this series explores a pivotal time in American history -- the emergence of public television as a new social institution, feminism and the women's movement, the nature of celebrity and America's cultural evolution. At its heart, the series is a portrait of a loving marriage with a shifting power dynamic. The first three episodes of JULIA dropped on Thursday, March 31, 2022 on HBO Max. A new episode debuted each Thursday through May 5. JULIA made its linear television debut on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 10:15pm ET/PT on HBO, which aired the season opener, "Omelette," but the cable channel had no other episodes on its schedule at that time.

The eight-episode second season of JULIA debuted with three episodes on Thursday, November 16, 2023 on Max. A new installment dropped weekly on Thursdays through December 21. With her show up and running on the air, and with a weekly cooking program virtually unheard of at the time, Julia grapples with her rising fame and celebrity. After spending some much needed time in France while preparing for her second season, she visits a wide variety of renowned restaurants and chefs across both the South of France and the U.S in Washington D.C. and of course, Boston. Social issues prevalent in today's social landscape are mirrored in Julia's journey as she and her team spearhead female-driven public television. Season 2 episodes include:

"Loup en Croute" (Thursday, November 16, 2023): In France, Julia butts head with Simca while working on volume two of their cookbook. In Boston, Alice faces pressure to find the network's next hit.

"Fried Chicken" (Thursday, November 16, 2023): After failing to see eye-to-eye with Simca, Julia proposes a culinary showdown. Meanwhile, Alice and Avis face new romantic possibilities

"Pressed Duck" (Thursday, November 16, 2023): Left to her own devices in Paris, Avis bonds with a prominent existentialist, while Julia turns to her friends at Le Cordon Bleu for help with an impossible recipe. As WGBH experiences a shake-up, Alice goes through a trial of her own.

"Chocolate Mousse" (Thursday, November 23, 2023): After returning to Boston, Julia finds herself at odds with her new director -- and Avis' new beau. Later, a run-in with an old colleague finds Julia fielding questions from the FBI.

"Buche de Noel" (Thursday, November 30, 2023): While preparing for an interview with Life magazine, Julia is thrown by a surprise visit from Paul's domineering twin brother, Charles.

"Chartwinkerie" (Thursday, December 7, 2023): While WGBH prepares for their annual fundraiser, Julia receives an offer from a network with the funds to take The French Chef to the next level.

"Shrimp & Grits" (Thursday, December 14, 2023): After receiving an invitation from the White House, the WGBH crew travels down to the nation's capital for a chance to film inside the President's own kitchen. Back in Boston, Paul finds himself at the beck and call of various friends in need.

"Lobster Americaine" (Thursday, December 21, 2023): When the FBI descends on WGBH, Julia uses her experience in wartime espionage to keep the crew safe from accusations of "un-American conduct." Later, a shocking announcement could shape the future of The French Chef.
