Plot Synopsis

ISLAND OF THE MONSOON is a one-hour documentary series that reveals the wildlife on the island of Sri Lanka -- from the steamy jungles of the south to the parched dry zone of the east. In the first episode, "Queen of Yala," the forests of Yala National Park offer hiding places for leopards and it's time for one young female to venture out on her own. Then, in the second installment, "Loka the Baby Elephant," elephants gather in Minneriya National Park to ride out the dry season, but when drought hits the park, a baby elephant is lead on a perilous journey in search of fresh food. ISLAND OF THE MONSOON made its U.S. debut on Smithsonian Channel on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 8pm.
