Plot Synopsis
Narrated by Graham McTavish, ICONS UNEARTHED: THE LORD OF THE RINGS is a one-hour documentary series that reveals behind-the-scenes stories about the "The Lord of the Rings" franchise. Cast, crew, and experts reveal never-before-heard stories about the trials, false starts, injuries and near death experiences, while building a whole world from scratch, inventing new technologies, making and breaking a studio in the process. The series features interviews with Sarah McLeod, Stephen Ure, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, John Callen, Jed Brophy, and Barrie Osbourne. Episodes include:
"The Impossible Film" (Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10pm): After several failed attempts to adapt the books and one half-successful animated movie, an unlikely hero takes on the film deemed by many to be impossible.
"Finding the Fellowship" (Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 10pm): With the clock ticking, Peter Jackson has to find a studio to save his work in progress; with everything on the line, maybe they can pull it off.
"The Battle Rages On" (Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10pm): After a successful teaser at Cannes, the team races to complete the first film in time; meanwhile, filming begins to take a toll on the cast and crew.
"Wizards at Work" (Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 10pm): The trilogy hinges on the technological magic being developed at WETA, but internal strife threatens to bring the whole thing crashing down.
"Stepping Out the Front Door" (Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 10pm): The studio take a gamble too far; Peter Jackson struggles in vain to avoid the burden of directing; in the midst of a grueling shoot, one of the dwarves is sent packing.
"Journey's End" (Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 10pm): Peter Jackson pushes the bounds both on the page and on screen; maybe the audience will like what they see; a chapter comes to a close, leaving its mark on the film industry.
