Plot Synopsis

First-year law students at a prestigious East Coast law school compete against each other for the attention of the brilliant and seductive Professor Annalise Keating, but little do they know they will need her help one night when they find themselves arguing in the woods -- while standing over a dead body. Professor Keating teaches Criminal Law 101 (aka "How to Get Away with Murder"), where she invites four of this year's students -- Conner, Wes, Laurel and the ambitious and confident Michaela -- to work on a high-profile murder case. She manipulates them into doing dirty legal legwork, like seducing someone to gain insight in the prosecution's case or digging up dirt to discredit the star witness. Wes even witnesses Annalise having an affair with Nate, a respected police officer, who she coerces to testify falsely at her trial in order to discredit a junior detective. She wins her case with ease and the students question just how far they are willing to go to earn a seat next to her in a courtroom on the next case. Although they know this formidable professor is dangerous, they will have to apply what they learned to real life when they become entangled in a murder saga that can destroy their university. In the show's winter premiere, it's the day after Sam's murder and the students are called in to help Annalise find her missing husband, but just how much does Annalise know? And when a surprise visitor shows up in town, getting away with this murder might not be as easy as the students had hoped. In the first hour of this two-part season ender, "The Night Lila Died," flashbacks start to piece together what really happened the night of Lila's murder. In present day, Annalise takes on a priest who is accused of murdering another priest. Meanwhile, Connor and Oliver take things to a new level in their relationship, and Wes and Rebecca continue to grow suspicious of each other. Then at 10pm in the finale, "It's All My Fault," Wes, Connor, Michaela and Laurel may have dug themselves in too deep a hole for Annalise to save them, and the shocking truth about Lila's murder is finally revealed.

HTGAWM returned for its second season on Wednesday, September 24, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "It's Time to Move On," Annalise and her students must move on with their lives as though nothing has happened, but the students are still reeling over Rebecca's disappearance. Only Annalise and Frank know that Rebecca was murdered and the two are determined to find out who killed her. Meanwhile, Annalise decides she wants to take on a new client, a brother and sister who are accused of killing their parents. And an old friend surprises Annalise at home and teaches her a valuable lesson. Shonda Rhimes is an executive producer of HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER.

Season 3 of HTGAWM premiered on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "We're Good People Now," with Wallace Mahoney's murder unsolved and Frank's whereabouts unknown, the "Keating 5" struggle to move on with their lives as they enter into their second year of law school. Meanwhile, Annalise's reputation at Middleton University is on the line, so she creates a criminal law clinic where the students compete to try their own pro bono cases. Annalise also wrestles with a decision involving Frank that could change everything.

The fourth season of HTGAWM premiered on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "I'm Going Away," in the wake of Wes' tragic death, Annalise returns to her family home to pick up the pieces of her shattered life, and realizes that, in order to rebuild, she must make a tough and shocking decision. Meanwhile, "the Keating 4" all face an uncertain future while Laurel becomes obsessed with finding out what actually happened to Wes the night he died. In a flash-forward, a terrifying crime is committed and everyone is a suspect.

Season 5 of HTGAWM premiered on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. After Annalise's class action victory in the Supreme Court, Michaela, Connor, Asher and Laurel move on to the next chapter of their lives. This season, a new mystery involving one of their own will unfold, as relationships are fractured and new secrets are exposed. In the season opener, "Your Funeral," Annalise selects students for her new legal clinic at Middleton and juggles job offers from competing firms, all while the Keating 4 attempt to move on from last semester's turmoil. And in a startling flash-forward, a new mystery is introduced and it shakes things up for everyone.

HTGAWM returned for its sixth and final season on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. The season opener, "Say Goodbye," picks up as Annalise struggles with the personal toll that Laurel and Christopher's disappearance has taken on everyone. Meanwhile, the remaining Keating 4, Oliver, Frank and Bonnie disagree on the possible reasons behind Laurel's disappearance. Tegan handles the aftermath of Emmett's apparent poisoning, and Gabriel wants to take his budding relationship with Michaela to the next level. Guest starring is Marsha Stephanie Blake and Christopher Darga. On Thursday, April 2, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT, ABC debuted "We're Not Getting Away With It," the spring premiere of HTGAWM. Annalise's disappearance is uncovered, and the fallout affects everyone. Following Asher's death, Michaela and Connor are booked on murder charges and forced to make the most difficult decision of their lives. Bonnie reveals a secret about Tegan, and Gabriel becomes a potential murder suspect.

On Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered "Stay," the series finale of HTGAWM. Annalise discovers there's a surprise witness that threatens her case. Meanwhile, Connor tries to persuade the K3 to go along with a new plan. Elsewhere, a lie between Frank and Bonnie threatens their relationship as Annalise's killer is finally revealed.
